ISAIAH E. DEAL, OF QUILCENE, WASHINGTON.
CONCRETE-MOLDING FORM.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 6, 1921.
Application filed November 22, 1920. Serial No. 425,842.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ISAIAH E. DEAL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Quilcene, in the county of J eflerson and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Concrete- Molding Forms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to concrete molding forms, and'pertains especially to a novel and peculiar collapsible or knock-down form or mold for molding concrete pedestals, pillars and supports for buildings and other strum tures.
The object of the invention is to provide a molding box or form comprising a plurality of separably hinged members having such relative shape or construction as to be assembled and dis-assembled for forming concrete blocks of various sizes and shapes.
A further object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive molding form capable of expeditious assembling and disassembling in forms of various sizes and shapes, and to furnish simple means for connecting the form members so that one or more of such members may be removed without separating or removing the remaining members.
Various other objects, advantages and improved results are attainable in the manufacture and practical working of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this application: Figure 1 is a perspective View showing the form for molding a square mold, or block.
Fig. 2 is a similar View with certain of the form members removed as for molding a pyramid form of block or pedestal.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the form in connected open position and showing one form member detached.
Figs. 4 and 5 are diagrams of one side of a form.
The same reference characters denote the same parts in the views of the drawings.
In carrying out my invention, I employ a plurality of boards or form members the edges of each of which are provided with hinge members 5 of such character as to permit said member to be withdrawn one from another for increasing or diminishing the size and shape of the forms according to the character of mold desired. In lieu of the hinges 5 on one edge of one pair of the board members, I secure hinged keepersfi so as to afl'ord means for opening and closing the form without disconnecting the remaining members, as clearly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings.
The central board or member 7 has beveled or inclined side edges diverging outwardly from the top to the bottom, and the board members 8 and 9 are similarly made to fit said edges in either of the forms shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, that is to say, the outer edge of the members 8, as shown in Figs. 1 and 5, are beveled so that these members are wider at the bottom than at the top, and as shown in Figs. 2 and 4:, the edges of the members 9 are parallel so that they are of equal width at the bottom and top, yet accomplishing the same result in the form and shape of the mold. The same is true of the corner member 10, having one straight edge and a beveled edge so as to make the corner member 10 wider at the bottom, as clearly shown in Fig. 1. The corner members 11 shown in Fig. 2 have parallel edges and are of the same width at the top and at the bottom, yet permit the formation of a pyramid mold. The said corner members have the keepers or clasps 6 attached thereto for opening and closing the form at any of its four corners.
It will be understood that each side of the at the top than V forms comprises the central or main member 7 and the members 8, 9, and 10, or 11, as desired, which may. be increased and diminished in size and number for making concrete molds or pedestals as 12 and 13. It will be seen that the only change in the forms from square or rectangular to pyramid is the substitution of the corner memberll for the corner members 10, and that to reduce the size of the mold 123, the member 9 may be omitted.
These forms have an open top for filling in the concrete, and they may or may not have a suitable bottom as desired or as occasion may demand.
Obviously the hinged and collapsible structure of the device permits of the expeditious operation, and also convenience in packing, storing and transportation.
While I have mentioned the form members as boards, they may be metal plates of any width and size desired, and while the primary purpose of these molds is for building supports or pedestals. I do not wish to confine my invention thereto, but reserve the right to make such changes and variations therein and in the application thereof as may come within the scope of the appended claims. Havingthus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a form for molding concrete pedestals, form sides comprising a central memher having beveled edges, a plurality of side members fitting said edges, corner members fitting the edges of the said side members, means for detachably connecting the said side members with the said central member and with the corner members, and means for detachably securing the corner members together for opening and closing the form.
2. In a collapsible form for molding conhinged to each of the central members, a
plurality of corner members hinged to the 'ad aCent 's'lde members, and means for securing the corner members for opening and closing the form, said side members adapted to beincreasedand diminished in size and in number, and said corner members adapted to be interchanged according to the size and shape of the mold desired.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand in thepresence of two witnesses.
ISAIAH E. DEAL.
