Description

C. H. PLUMER.
CIGARETTE HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED IAN. 2. 1920.
PatetedSept. 6, 1921 A TTORNE Y UNITED STATES HARES E. PLUMER, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.-
CIGARETTE-HOLDER.
' Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept. 6, 1921.
Application filed January 12, 1920. Serial No. .850,877.
To all whom z't may camera:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. PLUMER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Newark, county of Essex, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigarette- Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make, construct, and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to numerals of reference marked thereon.
My invention relates to cigarette-holders characterized by the provision of means for automatically ejecting cirgarettes from the holder.
An object of the invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive and attractive cigaretteholder.
I attain the above and other objects of my invention by the structure conventionally disclosed in the accompanying drawings, wherein similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 represents, a side elevation of a cigarette-holder, comprising an embodiment of my invention.
Fig. 2 represents, a longitudinal section through the cigarette-holder in operative position.
Fig. 3 represents, a similar section showing the holder in the normal or inoperative position after a cigar or cigarette butt has been ejected therefrom; and
Figs. 4-. and 5 represent, respectively, a side and an end elevation of the ejector.
Referring to the drawings, I have shown a cigar or cigarette-holder comprising a cigarette-holding member l and a mouthpiece 2 which may be fashioned from wood or any other suitable material. The mouthpiece has a bore 3 therethrough and the cigarette-holding member has a similar bore 4: therethrough, of slightly larger diameter than the bore 3, terminating in a cavity 5 to receive one end of a cigarette.
An annular member or band 6 is Secured upon the cigarette-holding member 1, so that the mouth-piece can move freely toward and away from the cigarette-holding member l.
The cigarette butt ejector consists preferably of an aluninum tube 7, one end of which is provided with a circular head 8 h h m y be formed integral with said tube or Secured thereto in any desired or convenient manner. One end of the tube is secured in the bore 3 of the mouth-piece 2.
A spring 9 is arranged upon the tube 7 and engages the adjacent ends of the cigarette-holding member 1, and the mouth-piece 2, tending to separate them as shown in F i 2.
y forcing the mouth-piece inward against the tension of the spring, toward the cigarette-holding member, the flange or head 8 of the tube 7 is moved into the recess or cavity 5 of the cigarette-holding member 1,and then serves to eject therefrom the butt of a cgarette 10 as shown in Fig. 3.
It will thus be understood that while the band 6 is shown Secured to the cigaretteholding member 1, it can just as well be fastened upon the mouth-piece, and be movable with the respect to the cigarette-holding member, if the parts are not tapered.
I prefer to make the tube and its attached I head of aluminum and the mouth-piece and the cigarette-holding member may be fashioned from wood, hard rubber, meerschaum, amber or other suitable material.
Although I have shown all of the parts as of circular cross section, it is to be understood that they may be of oval cross section.
The term cigarette-holding member as used in the claims is intended to include any equivalent thereof adapted to hold stogies, ci 'ars or the like.
xperience has demonstrated that the organization above described is a highly' efiicient one, and while I have shown the prer ferred embodiment of my present invention, I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of Construction shown and described, as obvious modifications thereof, not involving the exercise of invention, may be made by any skilled mechan'c, and such departures from what is herein set forth, I consider within the scope and terms of my.
claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A device of the class described, comprisng a cigarette-holding member provided with a bore therethrough terminating in a cavity located in one end thereof, a mouthpiece provided with a bore therethrough slidably Secured to said cigarette-holding member, an alumnum tube one end of which is Secured in said mouth-piece and the other cigarette-holding member and said mouth- 10 end of which is located in the bore of the piece tendng to separate them.
cigarette-holding member, a perforated flat- This speoificaton ,signed and Witnessed tened disk Secured to the end of the tube 10-' this 9th day of January, 1920. cated in the bottom of said cavity, adapted CHARLES H. PLUMER to normally close the bore of the cigaretteholding member and to be projected for` Wtnesses:
ward in said cavity, and a spring arranged FRED,K C. FISCHER, upon the tube and engaging the ends of the F ERDINAND T. NOLL.
