BURNER-SUPPORT.
Application filed December 3, 1920. Serial No.
To all whom 2' I? may concern Be it known that I, SEVERIN PEARSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Burner-Support, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to liquid and gaseous fuel burning stoves, it being the primary object of the invention to provide novel means for supporting the lamp of the stove, in a manner to insure the proper pos1- tioning of the lamp, when the same has been placed in the body of the stove associated therewith.
A further object of the invention is to provide a lamp of a novel construction whereby the same may be moved to a position within the body of the stove through the front wall thereof, thereby eliminating the necessity of moving the upper portion of the stove to accomplish the position ing of the lamp.
VViththe foregoing and other objects 1n view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, with out departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of the base of a stove constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view through the base showing the lamp as positioned therein.
Fig. 4 is a fragmental detail view of the securing device.
Fig. 5 is a front elevational view of the securing device, showing the curved arm as associated therewith.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 designates the base of a stove, which is provided with the usual supporting legs 6, and which is also formed with a lamp receiving shelf 7, forming the bottom wall of the lamp receiving compartment or chamber, the front wall of the lamp Specification of Letters-Patent.
. the bracket Patented Sept. 6, 1921. 428,144.
chamber being cut away to permit of access to the chamber.
he side walls of this lamp chamber are relatively straight as indicated at 8, which walls conform to the shape of the lamp to be supported therein, the lamp being shown as provided with relatively straight walls, whereby the lamp may move freely within the lamp chamber, to permit the same to be removed, cleaned or filled, with efficiency.
The upper portion of this base includes an upper ring member 9 which has connection with the base 5, as by means of the spaced arms 10 which have their lower extremities bolted to the rim 11 as at 12, the rim being formed integral with the base 5.
Secured topredetermined arms 10, are members 13 which are disposed opposite each other to provide bearings for the shaft 14, which has its ends supported by the bracket members 13, the shaft formlng however the support for the curved arms 15, which form important features of the present invention, and as shown these curved arms are secured to the shaft 14., in a manner to move therewith.
Disposed adjacent to the outer ends of these curved arms 15, are inwardly extending fingers 16 which are designed to move in the hook members 17, which hook members are secured to the lamp 18, in any suitable manner, the hook members being secured to the side edges of the lamp 18 on opposite sides thereof.
aving connection with one extremity of the shaft 14, is an operating lever 19 which is curved as at 20 to permit the outer or free extremity thereof, to lie in a position exteriorly of the upper portion of the base, where the same is easily grasped by the operator, to accomplish the operation thereof, to seat the lamp in its proper position within the base.
The reference character 21 designates a shelf which is formed within the base 5, and to this shelf are secured the spaced bars 22 which are provided with right angled lower extremities 23, forming extensions designed to engage each other, by means of whichthe bars 22 may be secured to the shelf 21, the securing of the bars to the shelf being accomplished by means of the bolt 24., which passes through suitable openings in the right angled extremities 23 and shelf 21.
more fully described. The lower extremities of these spring members 26 are secured to the bars 22 as by means of the rivets 27 the central portions of the spring members 26 being bowed, as clearly illustrated by Fig. 5 of the drawing, to normally exert pressure toward each other.
Carried by the lever 19 is an arcuateshaped arm 28, which 1s designed to move between the sprlng member 26, the spring members exerting lateral pressure on the arm 28 to frictionally grip the same, thereby restricting movement of the operating lever 19, to insure against the same moving, after the same has become positioned to lock the lamp 18 within the base.
In the operation of the device, the lamp 18 is moved within the lamp chamber until the pins 16 contact with the hook members 17, whereupon the operating lever 19 is operated by giving the same a rearward movement, with the result that the pins 11 contact with the walls of the hooks formed at the upper extremities of the hook members, and raise the lamp until the burner portion 29 thereof is properly positioned within the guard member 30.
If it is desired to remove the lamp 18 itis only necessary to impart a reverse movement to the operating lever, with the result that the lamp is lowered within the lamp chamber and released. It follows that the lamp may now be readily and easily removed from its chamber.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is i 1. In a lamp support, a base, said base including a lamp supporting chamber, said lamp supporting chamber having relatively straight side walls, and a shelf formed at the upper end thereof, a lamp adapted to be positioned within the lamp chamber, a shaft supported above the base and having arms, pins extending laterally from the arms, hook members carried by the lamp, said pins adapted to engage the hook members, means for moving the shaft to cause the arms to move the lamp upwardly within the chamber, and means for restricting movement of theshaft.
2. In a lamp support, a base, said base including a lamp chamber, a shaft operating above the lamp chamber, and having arms, hook members carried by the lamp, means carried by the arms and adaptedto contact with the hook members for connecting'the arms and hook members, and means for moving the shaft to raise the lamp within 7 the lamp chamber.
In testimony th t I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
