Description

UNITED STATES JOHN HEBER MCDAVIS, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
MEDICAL COMPOUND.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. MODAVIS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Newark, in the county of Essex and State ofNew Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Medical Compounds, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in medical compounds and has for its object to provide a compound of the character specified, especially adapted for use in the treatment of neuralgia to be used externally.
The improved compound is composed of the following ingredients: black gun-powder, chloroform, beef gall, and alcohol. In
preparing the compound, the alcohol and beef gall are first mixed together, and after they are thoroughly mixed, the chloroform is added, and when these are mixed, the black gun-powder is incorporated.
In practice I have found that the ingredients should be used in the following proportions:
Black gun powder 2 grains. Chloroform 70 grains. Beef gall 3%,; drams. Alcohol Q. S. 1 oz.
The compound when prepared forms a Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 6, 1921.
Application filed April 12, 1920. Serial No. 373,329.
greenish liquid that may be used in the same mannertas a liniment, and is especially adapted for the treatment of neuralgia in any part of the body.
As is known, beef gall is a stimulant for the liver when taken internally, and when used externally it stimulates the skin, brings more blood to the surface, and draws from the skin excessive watery secretion thereby relieving congestion.
Alcohol has dehydrating qualities, and acts also as a counter irritant and mild anesthetic.
Gun powder is a disinfectant.
In addition to the beef gall and alcohol, chloroform and gunpowder, both counter irritants are employed so as to stimulate the,
capillary circulation, thus cooperating to relieve the source of pain. The chloroform is also an antiseptic.
I claim:
1. A compound of the character specified, composed of the following ingredients in the quantities named: black gun powder, 2 grains, chloroform, 70 grains, beef gall 3:} drains, alcohol sunicient to make one ounce.
2. A compound of the character specified composed of black gun powder, chloroform,
beef gall and alcohol.
JOHN HEBER McDAVIS.
