Stands; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention has for its principal object to provide a smoking stand embodying practically all the features needed-by the smoker, and to stamp the entire device, with the exception of the cigar cutting knife, from a single piece of sheet metal; and with this object in view, the invention resides in the novel article o-fmanufacture hereinafter described and claimed, reference being made to the accompanying drawings.

In the manufacture of the device, a metal plate 1 has its two end portions bent upwardly to form parallel vertical side plates 2 and 3 adapted to receive therebetween a match box 4;. A preferably rectangular portion 5 of the side plate 2 is stamped laterally inward to provide a shelf for supporting the box 4 and said shelf is preferably attached to the plate 3 by means of integral tongues 6 on said shelf, passing through slots 7 in said plate 3 and bent downwardly, as clearly illustrated in Figs. 1 and 3.

A preferably rectangular portion of the side plate 3 is stamped laterally outward to provide a support 8 for a cigar cutter 9, said support having an opening 10 to receive the cigar tip, said cutter operating across said opening, as seen clearly in Figs.

The cutter 9 is preferably in the form of a slide contacting with the lower side of the support 8 and provided with a suitably disposed cutting edge, and this slide is guided by parallel flanges 11 formed by bending the edges of the support 8 inwardly. To prevent total withdrawal of the cutter 9, the support 8 may well be provided with a blind groove 8'. receiving a projection 9 on the cutter, as seen in Fig. 3. The metal 12 which is stamped from the opening 10, extends upwardly and sharpened to provide a knife for slitting the cigar tip lengthwise when required. 7

Suitably shaped cigar holders 13 are preferably formed integrally with the edges of the plate 1 at the base of the device and in some instances may serve as supporting feet for the entire article. I prefer, however, to

solder, braze or otherwise secure a nut 14 to the lower side of the base and to anchor a screw 15 to said base by passing it through the latter and through said nut, as illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3. This screw maythen be threaded into any suitablesupport such as a desk, smoking-stand or the like,

to effectively anchor the device. This manner of anchorage may be employed, but

others may beused, as occasion may require.

The entire device may be stamped from a single metal blank as will be clear from Fig. 4t and simultaneously with the stamping actlon, the parts may be bent approximately to the positions which they ultimately assume; and the waste metal atthe edges of the supports 13 may well be utilized for constructing the cutters 9. It will thus be seen that a device has been provided which is not only efiicient and desirable in every way, but may be manufactured with ease and little cost, thus permitting marketing at a minimum price.

Since probably the best results may be obtained from the details disclosed, they may well be followed, but within the scope of the invention as claimed, numerous minor changes may well be made.

What I claim is 1. A device of the class described comprising an elongated plate whose two end portions are bent upwardly to form two parallel side plates adapted to grip a match box, a portion of one of said plates being stamped laterally outward to a horizontal position, and a cigar cutter mounted onsaid horizontal portion.

2; A device of the class described comprising an elongated plate whose two end portions are bent upwardly to form two parallel side plates adapted to grip a match box, the intermediate portions of said plates being stamped laterally in the same direction to horizontal positions, one of said portions beingsecured to the opposed vertical plate, and a cigar cutter mounted on the other of said portions.

3. A device of the class described comprising an elongated plate whose two end portions are bent upwardly to form two parallel side plates adapted to grip a match box, the intermediate portion of one of said plates being stamped laterally outward to provide a horizontal plate whose edges are i turned downwardly and inwardly to provide guide flanges, said plate having an opening between said flanges, and a sliding cigar cutter movably held by said flanges and movable across said opening.
