INVENTOR @27860/1. 7Zaaz5rer BY 6 ATTORNEY I? TQ PATENT OFFICE.
ANNA L. VILANDRER, on NEW YORK, N. Y.
CLASP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 23, 1921.
Application filed October 23, 1920. Serial No. 418,985.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ANNA L. VILANDRER, a citizen of the United States, and resident of New York city, borough of Manhattan, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clasps, of whlch the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in garment closure devices or clamps and has special reference to clasp members attached respectively to the ends of belts or bands to be used around a persons waist within a tube or tunnel .on a garment.
The object of my invention is to provide simple and effective means to prevent the clasp members from sliding within the tub ing or tunnel of the garment and to detachably connect the members together.
My invention comprises novel detalls of improvement that will be more fully hereinafter set forth and then pointed out 1n the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming part thereof, Where- Figure 1 is a front view illustrating my improved clasp members at the ends of a belt or band; Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1, showing the clasp members in a garment; Figs. 3 and are detail perspective views of the clasp members; Fig. 5 1s a view similar to Fig. 1, reversed, looking from the opposite side; Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 5 showing the clasp members in a garment; Fig. 7 is a section on the hue 7--7 in Fig. 6..
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
The complemental clasp members are indicated at 1, 2 attached to the belt or band 3, that is adapted to fit around a persons waist in an ordinary manner. The belt or band may be of elastic or other suitable material. The members 1, 2 may be attached to the end portions of the belt or band by any suitable means. I have shown said members having struck-out projections 4 to engage the belt and ears or lugs 5 stamped from the metal of the members and folded over against the belt and clamped thereon. The member 1 has a tongue or clip 6 that is shown struck out from the metal of said member, raised slightly therefrom and projecting from the free end of the member toward its end that is fastened to the belt or band. Said tongue or clip is adapted for connection with member 2, the latter bein shown provided with an opening or slot? to detachably receive the tongue or clip 6. The opening or slot '7 is shown at the free end of member 2 remote from its connection with belt or band 3. The parts 6 and 7 provide means for detachably connecting the complemental members 1, 2 together, the member 6 also having a further function hereinafter specified. Member 2 is shown provided with a tongue or clip 8 that is shown struck out from the metal. of said member and raised slightly therefrom. The tongue or clip 8 is shown located between the ears 5 and the slot 7, and projecting toward said ears and the adjacent end of the belt or band.
The band 3 is adapted to be located within a tube or tunnel 9 of a shirt waist, skirt or other garment 10, and tongues or clips 6, 8 are respectively adapted to receive the material 9 9 at the ends of the tube or tunnel (Fig. 7), to retain the members 1, .2 exposed at the ends of the tube or tunnel, and prevent withdrawal of the members therein when said members are disconnected. The tongue or clip 6 not only serves to connect member 1 to member 2 to retain the belt on hand around a persons waist but serves also to retain member 1 from being drawn into the tube or tunnel, thereby retaining said member in position for connection with member 2 which is likewise retained from entering the tube by tongue or clip 8. The members 1, 2 may be attached to band 3 in such a manner that when said members are connected together the tongues or cli as 6, 8 will be on opposite sides as shown in ig47, whereby one of the tongues or clips will be concealed behind its member. The material 10 may be extended on one side along the edge of'the garment beyond the outlet 9 of tube or tunnel 9, in the nature of a flap, as shown at 10*, to overlie and conceal the opposing member, thus concealing its tongue or clip 6, see Fig. 7 In such construction the end 9 of the tube or tunnel will be at a distance from the edge of the flap and may be finished like a button-hole, as indicated in Fig. 6.
My invention is an improvement in the class of clasps set forth in my application filed Sept. 24;, 1919, Serial No. 326,029, providing a simplified and cheapened construc tion having fewer projections on the memopposite said opening to enga Y 4. A clasp comprising comp emental mem-,
here, the latter being most readily attachable and detachable. The free ends of members 1 and 2 are shown rounded to facilitate the passage of the member through the tube or tunne the construction being such, however, that the belt orband may be laid in the material of the tube or tunnel as the latter is being formed and stitched.
Having now described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A clasp comprising complementalmembers having interengagingmeans to detachably connect them together, said means on one of said members being in position to engage a tube of a garment to prevent withdrawal therein, the other of said members having means to engage said tube to prevent withdrawal of said member into the tube.
2. A clasp comprising complemental members, one of said members having a clip to engage a tube of a garment to prevent withdrawal therein, the other member having an opening to receive said clip, whereby said members are, detachably connected together, the member having the opening being provided withmeans to engage saidtube to pre vegt withdrawal of said member into said tu e. I e
3. A clasp comprisingcomplemental members, one of said members having a clip to engage a tube of-a garment to prevent withdrawal therein, the other member having an opening to receive said clip, whereby said members are detachably connected together, themember having the opening being provided with a clip extending toward the end said tube."
here, one of said members havin a clip projectingfrom' one end, toward t e other to receive a garment tube, the other member having an opening to receive said' clip, said member being provided with a'clip projecting toward the end opposite said opening to receive said garment tube.
band adapted to be threaded 5. A garment closure device comprising a band and clasp members each attached at one end to an end of the band, one of said members having a clip to receive a garment tube and the other member having an opening to receive said clip, said member havmg means between said opening and the band to engage said garment tube to prevent withdrawal of the member into the tube.
6. A garment closure device comprising a band and clasp members each attached at one end to an end of the band, one of said members having a clip adjacent to one end extendin toward the band to receive a garment tube, the other member having an opening to detachably receive saidclip, the last named member having a clip projecting toward the band to engage said tube of a garment.
7. A garment closure device comprising a band and clasp members each attached at one end to an end of the band adapted to pass through a garment tube and having means at the opposite ends to detachably connect said members and prevent withdrawal into said tube, one of said members having a clip between said connecting means and the band projecting toward the end of said memberthat is attached to the band to engage the adjacent end of said garment tube in which the band is located.
8. A garment closure device comprising a through a flexible tubing in a garment, clasp members attached to the ends of said band and having means to detachably connect said members and prevent withdrawal into said tube, and means on one of said members between the connecting means and the band to engage the tubing w ereby said member may be held against accidental withdrawal into said tubi ned at New York cit in the county of New ork, and State of N ew York, this 21st day of October, A. D. 1920.
