having a stationary jaw and a movable jawl and has for its primary object the provision of an actuating means for the movable jaw which will permit of a liner adjustment to be obtained of the jaws to a nutor the like over similar devices and which provides against the movable jaw slipping from the nutby moving accidentally away from the stationary jaw during the use of the device. Another object-v of this invention is the provision of a shank so constructed that it will firmly support both jaws and permit free sliding movement of the movable jaw aswell as forming a guard for the feed screw and permitting the latter to extend the full length thereof so that a wide adjustment of the movable jaw may be had. A
A further object of this invention is the rovision of a handle so constructed that 1t is capable of withstanding considerable strain and-which will be comparatively light in weight and also when secured to the .35 shank any possibility yof the same becoming accidentally detached or broken by the shank is obviated. y
A further object of this invention is the -provision of a connection between the handle and shank which besides forming a durable connection between said parts, will also form a support for end of the feed screw.
A still further object of this invention is the provision of ya wrench of the above stated character, which will be sim le, durable, and eicient, and which may e manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost. With these and other objects in view as will becomemore apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists 1n certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understandingof invention, reference is to be had to the following` description and accompanying drawings, in wh1ch:-

Referring in. detail to the drawin s, the' numeral l indicates the lshank aving formed integrally with one end a stationary jaw 2 and attached to its other end a handle 3. The shank ll includes spaced parallel members connected together at one of their ends by the j aw 2 and have their other ends slotted longitudinally to 'receive the end of a handle reinforcing member or'plate 5 and the latter has its side faces covered with handle forming elements 6 constructed from wood or any other materia-l suitable for the purpose so as to coperate with'the plate 5 in forming the handle 3. The handle so constructed will be capable of withstanding considerable strain and still be light in weight and convenient to grasp. l Thehandle forming elements 6 are secured to the plate b vfrivets T `and terminate short of the attached ends ot' said plate so as to eX- pose the side faces thereof and which are engaged by portions. The portions S are substantially rectangular and are connected by a web 10 which is arranged between 'the'niembers -l at their bifurcated ends and at one en is provided with a slot to receive the attached end of the plate 5 and with a socket 11 at its other end, in which is secured one end of a feed screw 12. The/portions 8 are provided with alined openings to receive rivets 13 which ass through the bifurcated ends of the mem ers 4 and also 'the plate 5, whereby said parts are firmly secured together. The feedscrew 12 lies wholly between the members 4 of the shank and has its other end secured to the jaw 2. j
A movable jaw llhas an a'c-tive face 15 adapted to coperate with the active face 16 of the jaw 2 vin gripping nuts or similar devices, and the body portion 17 of said-jaw 14 is provided wi h a longitud inal'jslot 18 to receive the inemll rs 4 of the shanltl and jaw 14 and intersects the longitudinal slot 18 and is adapted to receive an adjusting nut 20, the latter being mounted upon the feed screw 12 so that upon rotationthereofv the jawv 14 will be moved on the shank 1 toward and from the jaw Z depending upon which direction the nut is rota-ted. The ad justing nut 20 confined within the slot 19 and mounted upon the feed screw 12 provides a positive adjustment of the jaw 14- which will prevent saidjaw from moving accidentally when applied to a nut or the like consequently preventing the wrench from slipping. The adjusting screw 12 extending the full length of the shank provides a wide adjustment of the jaw 14 with respect to the jaw 2 thereby permitting the device to have an extremely large range of adjust-v ment to nuts of small sizes as well as large sizes.
An important feature of this invention is that the wrench may be held upon the nut or other object to be tightened and adjusted tolgrip the nut or other object by one hand on-v.
Vhile l have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is 1. A wrench having a fixed jaw member provided with a shank bifurcated at its in- Vner end, a. screw associated with the shank, a
jaw movable on the shank, adjusting means for the movable jaw cooperating with the screw, a block having a socket to journal the screw, said block being recessed for interitting with the shank, a handle plate extending into the block and shank and fastening means common to the said shank and said plate. 1
2. A wrench comprising a shank including spaced parallel members, a stationary jaw formed on one of the ends of said members, said members having their other ends bifurcated, a handle forming Vplate secured within the bifurcated ends of said members, grip elements secured to the fa'ces of said plates, a block overlying the bifurcated ends of said members and extending between said members and having a slot in one end to receive the handle forming plate and a socket in its other end, a feed screw having one end secured in said socket and located between said members and secured to the stationary jaw, a. movable jaw mounted on said members, and an adjusting nut associated with the movable jaw and mounted on the feed screw.
3. A wrench comprising a shank include ing spaced parallel members, a stationary jaw formed on one of the ends of said members, 4said members having their other ends bifurcated, a handle forming plate extending into the bifurcated end of said members, grips secured to the bases of said plate, a
block including rectangular portions con- Y nected by a web, said rectangular portions adapted to overlie the plate and the side members and have the web portion arranged between said side members and provided with a groove in one end to receive the plate and a socket in itsother end, said rectangular portions having alined openings, rivets extending through said openings, bifurcated ends of said members, and the plate, a feed screw secured in the socket and to the stationary jaw, a movable jaw on said members, and an adjusting nut associated with the movable jaw and mounted on the feed screw.
