highly efficient in operation, and well adapted to withstand the usage to which cotton choppers are ordinarily subjected. Other objects and advantages-of the invention will be fully understood from the following description and claims when the same are read in connection with the drawings accompanying and forming a part'of this specification, inwhich:

In the present and preferred embodiment Y of my invention the ground wheels 1 are carried by axle sections 2 and 3. The section 2 is solid, and the section 3 is tubular so as to telescopically receive the section 2.

From this it follows that the rotation of the longitudinal shaft 10 as before described will be attended by rotation of the choppers about their axes. Adjustably mounted on the side bars of the chopper frame are levers 21 through the medium of which the driver on the seat'22 is enabled to raise either of the choppers when occasion demands. The forward and lower arms of the said levers are connected through the medium of pendent bails 23 with the outer portions of the arms 15.

In the practical operation of my novel cotton chopper as thus far described it will be understood that incident to the traverse of a field by the chopper the revoluble choppers 16 will be rotated transversely and consequently will efficiently serve of purpose as cribed to them.

The adjustable connection of the arms 15 to the shaft 10 will be better understood by comparison of Figs. 2, 5 and 6 when it is stated that the arms 15 are longitudinally slotted as indicated by 15 to receive adjustable sleeves 16 one to each arm 15, and

which adjust-able sleeves 16 are adjustably fixed to their respective arms through the medium of nuts 17". The sleeves 16 serve to receive the shaft 10. V

In Fig. 7 I illustrate a construction in which the choppers 16 are hinged at 17* ratchet 50 is fixed on the axle section,'and

the wheel is loosely mounted on said section and is provided with a spring pressed pawl 5 1 in'engagement with the said ratchet. This provision manifestly enables the axle to turn while the inner ground wheelis at rest as when the machine is being turned.

As shown in Fig. 2 the gear 11 is splined and shiftable longitudinally on the shaft 10; the said gear being provided with a circumferentially grooved portion 50 engaged with a lever 51 having a detent for cooperation with a fixed segmental rack 51. This provision is made in order to enable .the
