Description

S. MATSUGAKL APPLICATION FILED DEC. 2|, 1.920.-
,.-ffjf 1m x I WW Patented Aug. 9, 1921.
I To all whom it may concern:
cap of the brush. The object ofxthe inven-.
. UNITED Se SHINICH MATSUGAKI, or roxvo, J'PLPAN.
Application filed December '21, 1920. Serial No. 432,277
tion is to provide a brush in which the bristle tuft is well protected when not in use, and to provide such a brush which can be easily handled and is simple in construction. I
The construction of the brush according to this inventionis illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which- Figure 1 shows the brush ready for use the bristles being exposed. V
, Fig. 2 shows partly in section the brush with the bristles drawn into the case.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of Fig. 1. 'Fig. 4 is an end View of Flg. 2, and Fig.
5 is another end View of Fig. 2. Similar references refer to similar parts throughout the drawing. i
Referring to the drawing, 1 is an open case having a slot a in one side and containing a sliding box 2. The latter is provided in one side with a pint engaging the said slot a in the case 1 and 1s fitted'with another pin 0 at one end. (FigspfZ and 5.) At the other end the sliding 'box 2 carries the bristles 3 fixed to a tube'or suitable socket member 4:. The sliding box 2 is also pro- I vided with a cavity (Z adaptedto be engaged by .a projection formed in the inner side of the case 1, said projection beingyieldingly pressed into the cavity'd when the bristles are in exposed position. thereby'preventing the latter from unnecessary movement.
5 is a cap with its one half larger than the other. By the larger part said cap is adapted to engage the outerside of the case 1, as" shown in Fig. 2, and by the smaller part it is adapted to engage the inner side of the case 1, as shown in Figs. 1 and 8. At the end of Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 9, 1921.
v j gi G F 5 m the smaller part the cap "5 is provided w th an elongated slot 6 for receiving the pine of the case 1. At both ends the said slot 6 is enlargedand isof sufii-cient size so that the pin 0 can freely pass through, the latter is then engaged by the reduced part of the slot 6.
From the foregoing it will be noted that in this brush the bristle may be withdrawn into the case lorbe pushed out therefrom.
This 'is efiected connecting the smaller end of the cap 5 'to' the rear end of the slidng box,*the pin a of the former engaging the slot 6 of ,the'latter, andpushing the cap 5 intothe case 1. or pulling it out therefrom. The slot a in the case 1 and the pin Z) in the sliding box 2 serve to limit the movement of the sliding box relative to the case.
When the bristle 3 is drawn into the case it is covered by the cap 5, as shown in Flg. 2, thus the brush may *befpocketed or otherwisecarried without injuring the bristle and collecting dust thereon.
,; Forpushing out or exposing the bristle 3, the pin 0 is passed through one enlarged] end/of the slot e and engaged by'the re-' duced part thereof, thus connecting the cap pushed into the case 1, whereby the bristle 3 will be; exposed ready for use. And vice versa for withdrawing the bristle 3 into the case 1.
V] hat I claim is 1; A pocket brush comprising a case open at its ends, a member slidable insaid'case and having bristles which may be projected beyond one end of the case, and a cap having a portion adapted to fit in the case, and detachably connec't'edto said slidable member, said cap also having a portion adapted to fit over the case, when saidJcap is'detached from saidfslidable member andto close the first named end of the case and protectthe bristles. p
2. A pocket brush at its ends, a member slidable in said case and having bristles which may, be projected beyond one end of they case, said case and member havingmeans to limit'the extent of movement of said member, and a cap having a portion adapted to fit in the case, and de- 5 to the sliding box 2, and then the cap 5 is r comprising a case, open techably connected to said slidable member, In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my said cap also having a portion adapted to hand in the presence of two Witnesses.
fit over the case, when said cap is detached SHINICH MATSUGAKI. from said slidable member and to close the Witnesses: 5 first named end of the case and protect the E. L. MURRAY,
bristles. T. 0. SMITH.
