Specification of Letters Patent.

To all 207mm it may concern Be it known that i, MAURIOE ANnnnsoN, a

citizen of the United States, residing at- Cranston, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to garment fasteners commonly known as pins or clasps.

The essential objects of my invention are to insure a secure and continuous engagement of the tongue with the catch or retaiir ing member; to facilitate the removal of the fastener from the garment; and to attain these on ls in an inexpensive and solderless structure.

To the above ends essentially my invention consists of such parts and combinations of parts as fall within the scope of the appended claim.

In its present and preferred form of embodiment, the body of my fastener is cut and bent initially by suitable dies from a thin resilient metallic sheet. The portion is oblong and provided near one end with a longitudinally disposed oblong opening 11 intermediate this opening and the adjacent end of thestrip the latter is slightly trans versely curved, and a shoulder 13 is raised indicate like in the material extending. from the opening to the end of the strip. The corners of the opposite end of the strip 10 ,are preferably downwardly depressed or inclined as at 14 forming a resultant cavity 15 therebetween.

The end of the strip containing the opening is rolled inwardly upon itself to form a sleeve 17 with an arcuate slot oropening 11, disposed centrally and transversely of the sleeve in its upper portion, with the bearing shoulder 13 adjacent and immediately below the slot, all as shown in Fig. 2. The opposite end of the strip 10 is inwardly bent in the form of a loop or catch 18. In the sleeve is a pintle or pivot member 20. A tongue 21 has a loop 22 upon its end embracing the pivot member 20. The tongue in this instance is slightly curved upwardly. Near its rear end the tongue rests upon the shoulder 13. In closing the fastener the outer end of the tongue is depressed and brought laterally beneath the catch 18 and into the seat 15. In this instance the body 10 is curved.

In another form of my fastener, as shown in Fig. 6, the tongue 23 is broad, and has instead of a pointed end, a curved resilient lip 24: adapted to clasp or overlap a loop 25 on the base 10.

I claim A garment fastener comprising an oblong body having near one end a longitudinally disposed opening with a transverse curved portion between the said opening and the adjacent end of the body with a shoulder raised in the material extending from said opening to the end of the body, and said end formed into a sleeve with a portion of said opening disposed in said sleeve, a pintle in said sleeve, and a tongue mounted on said pintle and resting near its pivot end on said shoulder.
