BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
HOLDER FOR DISHCLOTHS, IVIOPS, OR THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 2, 1921.
Application filed December 11, 1919. Serial No. 344,062.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AsBURY HAMILTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Dishcloths, Mops, or the like, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a holder for a cleaning element, such as a dish cloth, mop or the like.
An important object of the invention is to provide a holder of simple construction, which may be formed by bending a single section of rod or wire into the holding and handle portions.
A further object of the invention is to provide a holder of the above mentioned character, which is extremely simple in con struction, inexpensive to manufacture and durable.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a de vice embodying my invention, and,
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a section of rod or wire, which is suitably stiff and resilient. The rod or wire is bent at its central point 6, for forming a holding member A. This holding member embodies relatively long sides 7, preferably spaced in approximately parallel relation, for forming an elongated contracted slot 8. The sides 7, at their rear ends are bent outwardly forming outwardly bulging portions 9, providing a laterally enlarged openinglO, which is more or less elliptical. This elliptical opening leads into the openin 8.
The rear ends of the outwardly bulging portions 9 are twisted together, forming a twisted shank 11, from which diverge shanks 12, carrying handle sections 13 of a handle member B. The sections 18 extend longitudinally of the device, and project into openings 14 formed in a knob or element 15, and preferably securely anchored there in. This element or knob serves to connect the rear ends of the sections 13 and also prevents the undue slipping of the hand from the handle member B.
The reference character C designates a cleaning element, such as a dish cloth, while the same may be a mop or the like. This dish cloth, for the purpose of illustration is shown as folded longitudinally, such folding-forming somewhat of a head 16. The folded or upper portion of the dish cloth may be fed into the enlarged opening 10 and the-n led into the contracted longitudinal opening 8, the entire dish cloth being fed into the contracted opening 8 and ad justed therein, and held within the same by clamping engagement with the sides 7. It is obvious that the dish cloth or the like may be readily removed, when desired, and a new cleaning element substituted therefor.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of my invention, or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim A holder for dish cloths, mops or the like,
comprisin a rod bent upon itself between its ends for providing oppositely arranged strands, the forward portions of the strands being slightly spaced for forming a relatively long holding member, said strands at the rear end of the holding member being bent outwardly to provide a substantially elliptical portion, said strands being twisted closely together at the rear end of the elliptical portion for providing a relatively short shank, said strands at the rear end of the short twisted shank being bent outwardly in opposite directions and continuing rearwardly longitudinally and spaced laterally for a substantial distance for providing an open handle portion, the spaced strands of the handle portion converging rearwardly, the outwardly bent portions serving as a thumb rest whereby the thumb may readily slide the hand rearwardly upon the rear- Wardly converging strands, and a knob se- In testimony whereof I my signacured to the rear ends of said strands and ture in presence of two Witnesses. retaining them spaced, said knob extending ASBURY HAMILTON. laterally beyond such ends to serve as a Witnesses:
5 stop for the hand when moved rearwardly CARLLETTA BROWN,
upon the converging strands. HAROLD HAMILTON.
