To all w from it may concern:
Be it known that'I, EMANUEL JAcoBs,a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of WVayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Razor-Sharpening Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The primary object of my invention is to provide a simple, durable and inexpensive razor honing device that may be expeditiously manipulated to provide a razor blade with a sharp uniform edge, the device being particularly designed for sharpening a fixed single edge blade in contradistinction to the single or double edged detachable blades adapted for safety razors.
Another object of my invention is to provide a razor sharpening device that may be attached to a suitable support, held in the hand or otherwise supported during the operation of sharpening ablade placed in position on the device, the blade being held by a novel holder that permits of a' razor being properly positioned in the device to be sharpened.- v
A further object of my invention is to furnish a device of the character described with a novel reciprocatory and oscillatory sharpening element that may be manually reciprocated on ti e side of a blade and then readily transferred to the opposite side, this eing accomplished without disturbing the blade holder or the razor The reciprocatory and oscillatory sharpening element is capable of vertical adjustment and in consequence thereof it is possible to provide the edge of a razor blade with a desired-cutting edge;
My invention will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective View razor honing device, and

said support, said hand'grip as at 3, so that it may be held so as to reduce the weight of said support, and so as to provide clearance for a clip 4 slidable on said support.
The slotted support 1 and the slotted members 2 may be formed from sheet metal to provide a rigid frame, and at one end of the support 1 is an interiorly screwthreaded boss or sleeve'5 that permits of the support being attached to any form of handle or a permanent support.
Pivotally connected to the support 1, intermediate the ends thereof, by a screw 6 or otherpivotal means, is a blade holder 7, which in an active position is disposed longitudinally on the support l and in an inactive position is swung at a right angle to said support so that a razor blade 8 may be easily placed in said holder. The blade holder is preferably having side plates sess a degree of resiliency as to permit of the razor blade 8 being frictionally held between said side plates. By placing the outer end of the blade 8 at the end of the slid into the razor, one of the slotted members 2 has its side edge recessed, as at 9. With the shank of the blade 8 in the recess 9, the position of the blade holder is defined on the sup port 1 and the clip 4 may be shifted to engage the sides of the blade holder, as s own in Fig. l, and thus prevent an accidental pivotal movement of said blade holder. The slotted support 1 is of 'suiiicient length to accommodate the clip either end thereof, so that said clip will provide clearance for a swinging movement of the blade holder.
Adjustable in the slotted members 2 is a rod 10 having the ends thereof screwthreaded and providedwith winged thumb the being of a sufiicient length to permit of the rod 10 being raised and lowered re1ative to said support. One end of the rod 10 may have a collar 12 to bind against the inner face of one 'of the slotted members 2 and as an equivalent of this collar the rod1'0 maybe provided with a long sleeve that may be clamped between the slotted members 2. The rod 10 is made adjustable relative to the members 2 so that it may be placed at an angle with respect to a razor blade, that is, with one' end closer to, the blade than the opposite end, andthus cause any vreciprocable sharpening device on said rod to of the blade in an angular direction to the razor edgelduring reciprocable movement of th e'jsharpening device. .The advantage gainediby this'arrangem'ent is that of pre ven'ting'a ridge being formed on the sharpening device,"and a wiping action obtained relative to the razor which is whetted and more thoroughly sharpened.

16 may be shifted from one side of the blade to the opposite side thereof, without adjusting the blade holder 7 on the support 1.
The sharpeningdevice may be easily re moved by detaching the rod 10 and sliding the deviceoff of one end of the rod, but such detachment is ordinarily not necessary as the entire device may be readily maintained in a sanitary condition. 1
It is thought that the manner of manipulating the device to sharpen a blade will be apparent without further description, and while inthe drawing there is illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood thatthe structural elements are susceptible to such variations and modificationfas fall within the scope of the ap Jended claims. Means for honing ablade comprising a blade holder adapted to support a blade with its edge exposed, a reciprocable blade sharp ener having flatwaljls adapted to be alterna-tely placed against the opposite walls of the "bladeand moved longitudinally thereof, andmeans in 'thesame plane as said blade shift on either side v 1 wherein the last mentioned means includes in said holder, and
holder and confronting the edge of said blade and supporting said reciprocable blade sharpener against either wall of the blade in said holder, an angle to said blade holder permitting of said reciprocable blade sharpener being reciprocated and during such movement caus-, ing the end of said reclprocable blade sharpener to move at an angle relative to the exposed edge of the blade. 7
2. Honing means as characterized in claim a rod either end of which may be adjusted to place said rod at an angle to the exposed edge of the blade. V 3. A. razor sharpening device comprising a support, a pivoted blade holder on said and oscillatory support, a reciprocatory blade sharpener above said blade holder and adapted to be moved against the side of a blade in said blade holder and shifted from one side ofsaid blade to the other when at either end of the blade, and means carried by said support adapted to, hold said blade holder in alinement therewith,

Means for sharpening a razor, comprising spaced members one of which is adapted to have a razor extend therethrough to a position between said members, a'rod adjjustably mounted in said members, a recip- 'rocatory andoscillatory blade sharpener on said rod adapted to be shifted under said rod from oneside of the razor to the other side when at either end of the razor blade and move longitudinally of either side when reciprocated, and hers for holding the razor during the operation of said blade sharpener.
5. ,A razor sharpening device, comprising spaced'members, a rod adjustably mounted between said members, a reciprocatory blade sharpener supported by said rod adapted to be shifted from one side of the razor to the other side and moved longitudinally of either side, and means supported between said members in proximity to said rod and adapted for holding. a razor blade, said means being in spaced relation to said Inem-- bers so that said blade sharpener may be moved at the ends of the razor from oneside thereof to the other.
6. Means for sharpening a razor comprising a support, a pivoted blade holder on said support, a clip slidable on. said support adapted to engage the sides of said blade holderand maintain said blade holder in an active position, a sharpening element adjacent said support, and adapted to be shifted back and forth against either side of a blade adjustable means for supporting said sharpening element so that it may be moved to and from the blade.
7. Means for sharpening a blade comprising a slotted support, a pivoted blade holder on said support, a slidable clip on said sup+ said means being disposed at means between said memport adapted for holding said pivoted blade holder in an active position, slotted members at the ends of said support, a rod adjustable in said members, a reciprocatory and oscillatory member on said rod, and means adapted for holding a blade sharpening element in said recipro'catory and oscillatory member so that said member may be manipulated to move said sharpening element back and In testimony whereof I afiix my signature the presence of two Witnesses.
