Be it known that I, CHARLES FREDERICK OLIVIER, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Sherbrooke, rovince of Quebec, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scrubbing- Brushes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in scrubbing brushes and more particularly to what is termed a fountain scrubbing brush.

The primary object of the invention is the provision of a scrubbing brush which supports a container adapted to contain water and soap, and means for feeding soapy water from the container in advance of the brush.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a fountain brush such as above referred to including a container adapted to hold soap and water, and means therein for shaving particles of soap from a cake of soap and feeding soapy water from the container in the path of operation of said brush.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a fountain brush such as above referred to which includes a brush of the usual formation having means for mounting a handle thereon and a container secured to said brush and extending in advance thereof for feeding the soapy water or the like from the said container in the path of operation of the brush.

A still further object of the invention is the provision of a brush such as above referred to which will be comparatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture, reliable and efficient in use, and readily operated.

With the above and other objects in view, the present invention resides in the novel features of construction, formations, combinations and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of the present application, and in which:--

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a fountain brush constructed in accordance with the present invention;

Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view thereof;

Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken through the container showing the brush in plan; and,

Fig. 4 is an enlarged transverse sectional view with parts broken away.

Referring now to the accompanying drawing by corresponding characters of reference throughout the :several views, the numeral 5 designates in general my improved fountain brush, which consists of a scrubbing brush 6, of the usual formation including the rectangular body portion 7 from which extend the bristles 8. i A bail 9 is pivotally secured at 10 to the opposite ends of the body portion 7 and is held against any movement if desired by clips 11 which are likewise carried by the ends of the said body portion.

A handle 12 is secured to the intermediate portion of the bail 9 and is of sufficient length to permit the operator to use the brush without stooping.

A container 13 is secured at 14 to the upper side of the body portion 7 and is of substantially rectangular formation, the forward side thereof projecting as at 15 beyond the forward edge of the body portion 7 and is provided with a plurality of openings 16 through which the contents of the container 13 may flow in advance of the said brush 6.

A suitable closure 17 is provided for the container 13 while the upper forward side of the container is provided with a plurality of vent openings 18, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2.

The bottom of the container 18 is provided with upwardly punched projections 19 the terminals of which are sharpened and upon these projections is adapted to be placed a cake of soap 20 while the remainder of the container is filled with water to a point slightly below the vent openings 18.

The operation of the device is as follows:

The handle 12 is grasped by the operator and the brush moved forwardly and rearwardly over the surface of the floor or the like to be cleansed. This movement of the brush oscillates the cake of soap 20 which moves over the sharpened edges of the projections 19, causing the fine particles of soap to be shaved off of the cake, which are partly dissolved in the water within the container, causing soapy'water to be fed in advance of the brush 6.

As clearly shown in Fig. 4.0f the drawing, fine particles" of the soap will clog the openings 16, as shown at 21, which prevents the water from running too freely from the container.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be manifest, that a fountain scrubbing brush is provided which will fulfil all of the necessary requirements of such a device, and it should be understood in this connection, that various minor changes in the specific details of construction can be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is 1. In a device of the character described, the combination of a brush and a container, a handle for said brush, the bottom of said container being punched upwardly forming sharpened projections within said container, constituting a soap shaving means, said container projecting beyond the forward edge of the brush and having a series of open.- ings in advance of the brush, and a cover for said container.

2. A device of the character described comprising a brush including a body por tion and bristles, a bail attached to the ends of said body portion, a handle secured. to said bail, a container mounted upon said body portion, and projecting beyond one edge thereof, said container having openings in the projected portion thereof for feeding the contents thereof at one side of said brush, the bottom of said container being struck upwardly at intervals forming projections within the container, said projcctions having sharpened edges and constituting a soap shaving means, a cover for said container, and the said container hav ing a plurality of vent openings adjacent its upper edge.
