To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN l/V ALTER RnMBn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Soap- Powder Dispensers, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to devices for supplying soap-powder to individual users in the small quantities required for toilet purposes in. public lavatories and like situations, and the object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which shall be neat and attractive in appearance, easily and eco nomically manufactured and installed, and which shall be reliable in operation, discharge without waste, and locked with sufficient security to prevent the removal of the powder except in the small quantities required for lavatory purposes.
The invention consists in certain details of construction by which the above objects are attained, to be hereinafter described and claimed.
The accompanying drawings form a part of this specification and show the invention as it has been carried out in practice.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the improved dispenser. Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken on the line 22 in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a plan view corresponding to Fig. 1. Fi 4: is a plan view of the operating mechanism. with the reservoir or powder container removed.

A is the conical body portion of a casing containing the dispensing mechanism, having a laterally extending flanged bracket A adapted to be securedto the wall above or in the immediate vicinity of the hand-basin, not shown, and a depending tubular extension A through which the powder is delivered.
The upper portion of the body is screwthreaded internally to receive cOI'rQSPOHdiHg threads on the annular depending rim B of a cylindrical container or reservoir, preferably of glass, adapted to contain a supply of soap-powder, and permanently joined to the body A by applying cement to the screwthreads and screwing the parts together as will be understood.
On the upper end of the reservoir B is a vertical annular flange or neck B through.

which the powder is introduced. It is closed by a metal plug C having a horizontal flange C adapted to apply upon the neck B and terminating below in an angular rabbet c. Extending axially through the plug is a bolt D screw-threaded at the lower end and engaged in a circular disk or follower D serving as a nut, through which the bolt extends and is headed beneath as at D to prevent its removal.
. The plug is countersunk to receive the head D of the bolt, and the latter is turned by the insertion of a key, not shown, in the recesses d in such head.
An annular gasket E of soft vulcanized rubber, preferably of circular cross-section, is engaged in the rabbet 0 between the plug C and follower D adapted to be inserted with the plug and expanded by compressing it between the follower and plug through the medium of the bolt- D, thus engaging it beneath the shoulder Z) and holding the plug against withdrawal until the key is again applied and the bolt slackened to permit the gasket to contract.
The metal plug and glass container are thus strongly locked together without danger of fracturing the glass.
Across the interior of the body A extends a bar F having a central hole f serving as a guide for a vertical valve-rod Gr extending axially through the delivery aperture a at the bottom of the body. At the top of the rod is riveted an agitator G of sheet metal, having radial arms, preferably in the form of a cross, and at the lower end below the aperture a the rod carries a conical valve -l adapted to control the aperture and the escape of powder therethrough.
Between the bar F and agitator G and abutting against these parts is a helical expansion spring G inclosing the valve-rod and tending to raise the valve G to close the aperture a.
Rivet-ed on the lower end of the rod G is a forwardly projecting arm G extending through a vertical slot (1 in the extension A and terminating in a finger-piece G by which the rod may be depressed to open the aperture a and permit a portion of the powder to escape through the extension A to the hand of the user held below such extension.
The amount delivered is determined by the position of a collar G on the rod G be low the bar F and arranged to approach the aperture a from above when the rod is full depressed but not to close such aperture entirely or pack the powder immediately above the aperture.
The action of the agitator G is to prevent the formation oi a bridge in the powder above the bar F, which might otherwise form and interfere with delivery. The arms of the agitator by reason of the vertical re ciprocations of the rod G stir the mass in the container B and insure its maintenance in the desired loosely powdered condition.
The body A of the casing, with the bracket A extension A and bar F, is preferably a single integral casting as shown.
I claim The herein described powder distributer comprising a reservoir and a casing separably formed and'connected to the lower end thereof, a transverse bar in the upper end of said casing, there being a valve seat in aid casing below said bar, and a tubular extension deoending below said valve seat, a vertically disposed valve rod movable through said bar and through a delivery aperture said valve seat, an agitator carried by the upper end of said rod, a collar on said rod between said bar and valve seat, a spring on the rod between said agitator and bar, a valve on said rod upwardly movable to close said aperture, and an operating arm connected with said rod and operable through a vertical slot in said depending extension.
