APPLICATION FILED 0CT.25. 1920.

UNITED; STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DANCING TOY.
- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 5, 1921.
Application filed October 25, 1920. Serial No. 419,238.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HIRAM CABLE CRAMER, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Lexington, in the county of Fayette and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dancing Toys, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to amusement devices of the dancing figure type and, broadly speaking, it is my purpose to provide a device of this character which can be made to dance in a life-like manner and in harmony with the time of an air beat by the fingers of the operator of the device. To this end my invention consists of a jointed figure mounted upon an agitating board through the instrumentality of-a flexible rod or wire, whereby the figure will be caused to execute particular dance motions desired by the op- I erator when the board is 'vibrated, as by means of beating time thereon with the fingers.
More particularly it is my purpose to provide an exceedingly simple and inexpensive device of the character mentioned and of such construction as will result in maximum response of the jointed figure to the most delicate vibrations imparted to'the agitating board whereby a most efiicient device of this character is produced.
With the foreging' and other purposes in view my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and relative arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter more particularly described in connection with the accompanying drawings- Y and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
In the drawings, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the different views Figure 1 is a perspective view of an amusement device embodying the essential features of my invention; and
Fig. 2, a detailed sectionthrough aportion of the agitating board showing the means employed for rendering the dancing figure most responsive to vibration imparted to the board.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, 10 designates'an agitating board, so called, though it may be formed of metal, which is of any desired size and shape, but preferably elongated and adapted to have one end 11 thereof held rigidly so that its remaining .free end a figure 14 simulating a human being having pivotally joined limbs. This figure is supported by the wire 13 in an upright position with its feet lightly touching the free ends of the board 10, so that when vibrations are imparted to the board as by means of beating thereon with the fingers, the flexible wire will cooperate with the board to cause the figure to dance in harmony with the vibrations imparted thereto.
I am aware that toys similar to thetoy described in the foregoing have been previously known, but in operation most-prior types of such toys have been found more or less wanting because of the fact, as I have discovered, that the flexible supports for the figures have been too sluggish in responding to vibrations of the board. In order to overcome this defect in prior types of dancing toys I have provided means to cause a maxi- This means consists of a block 15 immovable with respect to the board adjacent the point of connection of the wire therewith, and provided with an opening through which the wire passes. An auxiliary support somewhat in the nature of a fulcrum is thus provided for the wire which increases its flexibility and renders it most responsive to vibrations imparted to the board.
I claim An amusement device of the character mentioned comprising a vibratory board, a flexible wire fixed at one end to the board and at its other end supporting a dancing figure operable through responsive action of the wire to vibrations imparted to the board, and a block secured to the board and having an opening therein through which the wire passes, whereby an auxiliary support for the wire is provide'd to produce maximum responsiveness therein. 7,
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature.
