Description

L. H. CASSWELL.
LAMP SHADE HOLDER:
APPLICATION FILED ocrzfs, Isla.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEONARD HENRY CASSWELL, OF MAIDSTONE, ENGLAND.
LAMP-SHADE HOLDER.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, LEONARD HENRY Cass- WnLL, a subject ot the King ot Great Britain, and resident of hllaidstone, in the county ot Kent, England, have invented new and usetul Improvements in Lamphade Holders, ot' which the following is a specification.
rJ`his invention relates to lamp shade holders more especially intended for use in connection with electric lamps Whether hanging or standard lamps, but also applicable to oil lamps.
According to my invention, the shade holder comprises tivo or more (preferably tivo) vertical rods Which are secured at both ends to the shade and are adapted to be gripped and held at intermediate positions by spring clips mounted at the ends ot the carrier ou the lamp holder.
F or this purpose I provide the shade holder with tvvo or more (preferably tivo) 'vertical rods adapted to be gripped and held by spring clips at the ends ot the carricr which supports the shade holder. This carrier or met-al fitting' may be attached by a nut or otherwise to the lamp holder, or it may be simply mounted thereon. lt will be readily seen that the vertical rods bearinpg` the shade holder can be moved up and down within the spring clips of the carrier, and the shade will be retained securely in any position to which it is adjusted. Moreover a very strong and durable construction is obtained. These spring clips mayA be pivotally attached to the carrier so as to permit tilting ot the shade relatively to the lamp.
in the accompauyingl drawing l. have shown bow my said invention may be conveniently and zulvantapeously carried into tice. in this drawing- 'lf`igjfjures l and 2 are elevations ot a table lamp having my improved shade-holder applied thereto, the shade being arranged in diilerent positions in the two views.
Figi'. 3 is a shade 'frame andholder made according` to my invention, and Y Fig. el is a plan view thereof.
A. is a lampshade frame having' two diaietrically opposite vertical rods B, B secured in its interior. These rods are held friction-tight in clips C, C which are each 'formed of two leaf springs of spring,- steel bent to form guide-channels in which the rods can slide longitudinally.
The springs are secured Jfor example by rivets D, D to the oppositely extending` arms Speccation of Letters Patent. Patented June 14:, 1921,
Application led October 24, 1919. i
Serial No. 333,021.
E, E ot a carrier ring` F whereby the shade can be secured to the lamp.
By adjusting` the position of the rods B, B in the clips C, C the shade fr can be arranged so that the unsliaded light from lamp l can be controlled as desired, for example as shown in Figs. l and 2.
The ends oi the arms E, E which carry the spring clips are pivotally connected at l, K to the carrierring F, the pivotal joints being made sufficiently tight to hold the shade at any inclination 'to which it 'may be adjusted.
By my improved construction both the height and the inclination ot the shade relatively to the lamp may be adjusted.
TWhat l claim is l. The combination, with a lamp shade, oit vertically extended members secured to said shade. a carrier ring adapted to be secured to a lamp, spring' clips adapted to hold sain vertically extended members friction tight, and means including` 'pivotal joints connecting` said clips and said carrier ring and adapted to hold said clips friction-tight in a position to vwhich they are adjusted.
Q'. The combination With the traine oit a lamp shade, of vertical rods secured at both ends to said iframe, a carrier including,` a part adapted to be secured to a lamp and arms estending outwardly therefrom, triction guide members in which said rods may slide longitudinally, means tor securing said guide members to said arms, and iirictional pivotal joints connecting` said arms to said part.
3. The comhination, in the unitary traine ot a lamp shade comprising` upper and lower trame members und elements positively conneet/ing said upper and lower traine members together. ot a plurality ot vertical parallel rods uniformly spaced around said trame and connected at their upper and lower ends to said upper and loiver trame members respectiif'ely, a carrier ring,1 adapted to be secured to a lamp, arms carried by said ring' and projecting' outwardly therefrom., clips mounted on said arms and `formed to receive the parallel rods and to clip said parallel rods friction-tight at positions intermediate ot' the ends of said rods, and pivotal joints connecting` said arms and said carrier ring.
