Description

F. L. CANTWELL.
BLOWER.
APPUCATION man JUNE x, 1920.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRED L. GANTWELL, OF SAN BERNARDTNO, CALIFORNIA.
BLOWER.
Application filed June 1,
T all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRED L. CANTWELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Bernardino, in the county of San. Bernardino and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blowers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention seeks to provide a blower which may be driven from a grinding machine or from any established driving shaft and supported in convenient position to force draft through a blacksmiths forge. Qne particular object of the invention is to so construct the blower casing that it may be secured readily upon a work bench and disposed in proximity to other machinery.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved blower;
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same; 1
Fig. 8 is a transverse section.
In carrying out the invention, similar mating members 1 and 2 which are of such form as to present a substantially flat circular body portion having an extension 3 at one side which constitutes an outlet or spout. These body members are provided at intervals upon their meeting edges with lugs through which fastening bolts are in serted to secure the members firmly together. Tn one member, at the center of the flat circular portion thereof, is a boss 5 which provides a bearing for the fan shaft 6 and upon the mating member, in alinement with the said boss, is an arched or offset bearing bar 7, openings 8 being formed in the body member at opposite sides of said bearin bar to admit air into the casing. The fan shaft 6 is journaled in the boss 5 and the bar '4', as clearly shown in Fig. 2, and a pulley 9 is secured upon the end of the shaft adjacent the boss 5. This pulley 9 is adapted to be operatively connected by a belt 10 with a line shaft or with the axle of a power driven grindstone or any other convenient established machine. From the spout 3, a con- I employ duit 11 extends to convey the blast to any Specification of Letters Patent.
'therethrough and the Patented June 14, 1921.

desired point of use. Between the casing members 1 and 2, a fan 12 is secured upon the fan shaft 6 and as the said fan is rotated air will be sucked in through the openings 8 and driven out through the spout 3 and the conduit 11 as will be readily understood.
It is the purpose of the invention to support the blower casing firmly upon beams or supportingbars disposed above or adjacent or forming a part of a work bench, and to this end ach casing member is provided ap proximately at the base of the spout 8 with a lateral flange or lug 13 having openings lei therein through which fastening bolts may be inserted into the bench or into beams, indicated at 15.
It will be readily noted that I have proided an exceedingly simple blower which may be readily install d at a very slight expense and driven from a line shatt or from a small motor. The securing lugs or flanges 13 provide means for rigidly supporting the casing and do not project from the casing to such an extent that they are liable to be broken oi by chance blows. The parts can be readily assembled to set up the device and can be readily disassembled when it necessary for any reason to take down the blower or to repair the same. The device is especially adapted for use in private garages. small ranches, etc. where a cheap blower desired in connection with a manually-driven emery stone.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A blower comprising similar mating casing members secured together, one of said members being provided with a bearing other of said members being provided with an arched bearing bar in alinement with the said bearing and having inlet openings at opposite sides of said bar, a fan shaft journaled in the said bearing and the said bar, a fan secured upon said shaft between the casing members, and a driving pulley on one end of the said shaft.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
