Description

DOLARD PROCESS OF REMOVING DISGOLORING-D CADIAUX, 0F LOWELL, IVIASSAGHUSETTS.
EPOSITS FROM MASONRY STRUCTURES.
Specification of No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DOLARD CADIAUX, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lowell, in the county. of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Processes of Removing 'Discolor'ing-Deposits from Masonry Structures, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the process of removing and preventing recurrence of the white stain or deposits ordinarily resulting from the exposure of natural and artificial stone in building structures to atmospheric. and other dampness.
The invention has for its object to provide a convenient and economical process involving the application of muriatic acid to the surface to be treated whereby the same is thoroughly cleansed of discoloring deposits and subsequently applying to the surfacea compound consisting of oils by which the stone or brick is rendered impervious to dampness thereby preventing the recurrence of discoloration.
In carrying out the process I apply, by means of a brush or swab muriatic acid to the surface of the stone or brick by which the latter is thoroughly cleansed of the discoloring deposits restoring the stone or brick to its original color and, in the case of the treatment of polished stone or brick, to its original luster.
Subsequent to the cleaning process the surface is gone over with a mixture of oil of citronella, oil of sassafras and glycerin in the proportions of one-half pint of oil of citronella and one-half pint of oil of sassafras to a wine glass of glycerin whereby to Application filed July 12,
Letterslatent. .Patented June F, 1921.
1919. Serial no. 310,425. permanently close the pores of the brick or stone thereby preventing the absorption of moisture and water and the consequent discoloring deposits. The use of the oils, it will be noted, also kills any animal growths that may have developed and prevents the formation of such growth. The surface is finally gone over with a coat of pure glycerinwhich improves the appear-' ance of the work.
Having thus described my process in detail, what I desire to secure by'Letters Patent is:
l. The process of treating stone for removing discoloring deposits therefrom consisting in applying muriatic acid thereto and subsequently applying a mixture of oil of citronella, oil of sassafras and glycerin to render the stone impervious to moisture and finally applying pure glycerin to the surface of the stone.
2. The process of treating stone, brick, etc, consisting in first cleaning-the same by an application of mineral cleansing acid, thereto and second by the application of a mixture of essential oils and glycerin as will render the cleaned surface impervious to moisture without alteration of the natural appearance of the same.
8. The process of treating stone, brick, etc, which consists in first cleaning the same by an application of muriatic acid, and then applying a mixture of citronella, sassafras and lycerin in substantially equal parts and subsequently applying pure glycerin to the cleaned surface.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature hereto.
DQLARD CADIAUX.
