WATER-PAN FOR HOT-AIR FURNACES.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HARRY L. W'ooo, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Dowagiac, in the county of Cass and State of lllichigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lVatei lians for Hot-Air Furnaces, of which the following is a specification, reference may he spilled thereupon while the pan is being filled.
Still. another object is to provide a closure for the water pan. of a furnace, which closure when in open position will retain any condensation that may have accumulated thereupon instead of draining the same upon the floor.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a fragmentary portion of a furnace equipped with the herein described improved water pan;
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same taken upon the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
In theseviews the reference character A designates a furnace wall and B a water pan formed integral with or secured to said wall, said water pan having a portion projecting exteriorly of the wall A as is common practice. This projecting portion of the water pan B is provided wlth a closure Specification of Letters Patent.

C which is hinged at the front thereof to the forward edge of the water pan as indicated at D and which is provided at a suitable point with a lug E forming a handle by which said closure may be raised or lowered. The open position assumed by said closure is illustrated in dash lines in Fig. 2. The free edge of the closure C, that is to say the edge adjoining the wall A when the closure is seated, is provided with a depending flange F which is adapted to seat upon a ledge G integrally formed upon the portion of the wall A above said water pan. The flange F is continued around the entire periphery of the closure C, so that said closure in its open position forms a shallow vessel which is adapted to catch such water as may be spilled thereupon while the pan Bis be ing filled and which furthermore will serve to retain any condensation which may have accumulated upon the under surface of the closure while the same is seated. Thus such water as may have been spilled upon said closure or accumulated thereon due to condensation is not permitted to drain off upon the floor but is retained and returned into the pan B when the closure is again seated.
What I claim as my invention is:
In a device of the character described, the combination with the wall of a hot air furnace, of a water pan projecting eXteriorly therefrom, a closure for said projecting portion hinged at its outer edge to the outer edge of said exteriorly projecting portion and provided with a flange around its entire inner edge, and means adjacent the wall of said furnace formingaseat for the closure.
