DEVICE FOR MARKING: .ALS AND THE LIKE.
To all whomit may concern:
2 form of design bf the cutting and piercing Be it known that I, To us Fnnmns AMOEDO, a citizen of Argentlna, and residing at Buenos Aires have invented a new and useful Device for lVlarking Animals and the like.
The invention relates to a device for marking animals and the like.
The object of the present 1nvent1on is to provide a simple, practical and efficient marking device of strong and durable and comparatively inexpensive construction, designed for marking the ears of animals and analogous purposes and adapted to cut or perforate a figure or des1gn and simultaneously feed ink or similar llqllld whereby a distinct accurate mark may be read1ly produced.
With these and other ob ects in view the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, 1llust rated 1n the accompanying drawings andpomted out in the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction be r esorted to .without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention:
In the drawing in which like characters of reference designate corresponding parts in the several figures:
Fi re 1 is a perspective view of a markin evice constructed in accordance w1th this invention.
Fig. 2 is a detail view illustrating the construction of the ink reservoir.
Fig. 3 is a similar view, the reservoir casing being separated to Illustrate the mount ing and the arrangement of the piercing and cutting means.
Fig. 4 is a detail perspectlve v1ew of the front portion of the prncers.
Fig. 5 is a similar view showmg cutting members applied to the plncers.
Fig. 6 is a detail view illustratlng one means.

upwardly extending arms between which forming a form and between the arms of the sides of the fork is arranged an eye 10 of the bar 2. The pivot 3 which passes through the eye 10 is preferably in the form of a screw or bolt but any suitable shape may, of course, be em loyed and the said bar or member 2 is a a-pted to swing toward and from the bar member 1, as -11'1dlcated by the arrow 22, the inner portion of the bars or members 1 and 2 being shaped to form handles or grip portions and adapted to be gripped by the operator similar to an ordinary pair of pincers for actuatmg a punch 4. The punch 4 which is movable upwardly and downwardly is arranged beneath the outer or front portion of the bar 'or member 2 and it has a coiled.
spring 5 disposed on its upper portion and bearing against a bolt or pin 6 which pierces the uppervend of the punch. The spring is arranged to be compressed on the downward or inward movement of the bar or member 2 and is adapted to lift the punch when the said bar or member 2 is moved upwardly member 1 as w1ll be readily understood.
The lower end of the spring bears against a valve or closure 7 arranged to cover and uncover a filling opening 26 in the cover 8 of an ink reservoir 9 and the said valve or closure which projects beyond the cover 8 is providedw1th an opening through which the punch passes. The cover 8 ofthe ink reservoir or rece tacle is provided with a central opening or the punch and the reservoir or casing is preferably rectangular as shown, but it may of course be of any suitable configuration.
The sides or arms of the fork of the bar or member 1 is provided at their inner faces with spaced parallel longitudinal grooves 11 and 11 which are adapted to permit parts of the device to be slidably mounted in the said form. As shown in Fig. 1 when the ink reservoir or receptacle is employed the grooves 11 slidably receive opposite ribs 23 of said reservoir or receptacle which is secured between the sides or arms by means of the screws 19 and 20 adapted to permit the reservoir or-receptacle to be readily detached when desired. The plunger 4 carries or away from the bar or a male cutter 13 and a plurality of tattoo pins 12 which depend from and are mounted at their upper ends in a plate or support supporting arm 18 formed integra with the bar or member 1 and located below and in spaced relation with the fork to whlch the bar or member 2 is pivoted. The supporting arm 18 has mounted on it a female die 15 and a cushion 16 of rubber or other su table material, a steel die plate 17 being mterposed between the cushion 16 and the supporting arm 18. The female die and cushion are provided with central opemngs and aperturesarranged slmllar to the openings and apertures of the bottom of the mk reservoir or receptacle and they coiiperate with the male cutter and the tattoo pins. in the operation of the device. The central opening in the bottom of the reservo1r or receptacle constitutes a guide for the male 1 die as indicated by the arrow 29 and the perforations 31 guide the tattoo pins. The
upper ends of the tattoo pins are preferably securedin perforations'28 in the support or plate 126 but they "may be fastened in any other desired manner. The spring 5 which lifts the plunger or punch, also serves to maintain the valve or closure 7 tightly against the cover 8 to prevent leakage of the ink or other liquid content of the reservoir 1 or rece tacle and the lower face of the valve [is re erably provided with alining 24 of cor or othersuitable material for hermetically sealing or closing the filling open ng. The valve orclosure 7 which is shown 111 its open position in Fig. 2 of the drawing 1s movable in the direction of the arrow 25 to close or cover the said filling opening.
The supporting arm 18 is pierced by screws 34 or other suitable fasteningmean's for securing the female die andthe cushlon to the supporting arm.
The grooves 11 and 11" are adapted to receive the ink, reservoir or rece tacle and also plates 38 and 40 as illustrate in Fig. 5 of the drawing in which codperating cutters or knives 38 and 40 are employed. The knife 36 is mounted upon the supporting arm 18 and is secured to the same by 35 while the knife 37 is arranged at t e lower face of the plate 38- and is secured to the punch or plunger. The plate 38 is provided with screw holes 39 adapted 'toreceive screws for the attachment ofspare parts. The outer portions of the-knives 36 and 37 screws are curved toward each other and are provided with transverse cutt' edges as shown. The plate 40 is provlded with a central opening for the reception of a plunger or punch which is also. guided by the plate 38. The bar or member 11s preferably hollowed out at 21 to increase the space at the fork and the supporting arm.
Thedevice is adapted for marking the ears of ammals and for various other purposes and in Figs. 6, 7 and 8 of the drawings are shown-different designs which may be employed, In Fig. 6 the punch cuts acircular opemng 42 and an annular series of perforations 43. The opening 44 and perfork, a punch, means mounted in the fork for guiding the punch, a bar pivoted in the fork and, arranged to actuate the punch, a cutter carried by the punch and a codperating cutter mounted on the supporting arm. 2. A device of the class described including a bar provided with a fork having 0 posite guides, a punch operating in the ork,
means mounted in the said guides for re ceiving and guidin the punch, a bar pivoted in the fork an arranged to actuate the punch and means carried-by the first mentionedv bar for cooperating with the punch.
