Be it known that l, TVYNAND VAN Kon- LAAR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State o Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Penholders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to pen holders, the principal object of the invention being to provide means for removing the used pen from the holder by a movable part forming a portion of the holder.

Another object of the invention is to pro vide means for limiting the movement of said sliding part but permitting it to be entirely removed when it is desired to clean the portions of the holder.

This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.

In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding arts throughout the several views, and in w ich Figure 1 is an enlarged view with parts broken away of the invention.

Fig. 2 is a view of the inner part which engages with the wooden stock.

Fig. 3 is a view o'f'the slidable member which is located on the inner part.

Fig. i is a view of the rubber grip which surrounds the slidable part.

In these views 1 indicates the wooden stock which is formed with a cylincrical part 2 to receive the metal cap 3. This cap firmly fits the cylindrical part. The cap, intermediate its ends, is provided with a small projection 4:. A sleeve 5 fits over the cap and said sleeve is provided with an annular groove 6 located an appreciable distance from the outer end and with a similar groove 7 located an appreciable distance from its inner end, this groove 7 is inter rupted for about one-sixteenth of an inch so as to form a space as shown. at 8,

through which the projection 4 may pass. The sleeve is slipped over the cap, the pro ection passing through the space 8 and the said sleeve is turned to move said space out of all alinement with the projection.

The projection will then prevent the sleeve from being entirely removed from the cap but will permit it to have a certain amount of longitudinal movement on said cap. The cap is inclosed by the tubular member 9, formed of rubber or the like, which provides a finger grip. The outer end of the sleeve 5 is provided with a bead 10. The pen point 11 is inserted between the cap and sleeve and is pushed in until it strikes the bead formed by the groove 6. When the point is to be replaced by a new one it is simply necessary to push the sleeve outwardly so as to cause the bead 6 to force the pen point off the cap so that the point can be removed without touching the same. If it is desired to clean the parts of the holder the sleeve is turned until the space 8 registers with the projection 4 when said sleeve can be entirely removed from the cap. It will thus be seen that the head 6 acts as a stop for preventing the pen point being pushed in too far. 7

It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.

I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.

What I claim is:

A pen holder comprising a stock, a cap carried thereby, projection on the cap, a sleeve slidably mounted on the cap and provided with inwardly extending beads, the head at the inner end of the sleeve being interrupted to form a space through which the projection may pass, the bead with said projection forming a stop for limiting the outward sliding movement of the sleeve and the second bead forming a stop for the pen point.
