'end of rendering the same Unita srrs HAROLD I. DEELY, OF WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT.
SWIVEL-:encon ron HEADING-:Mecnrivns f specification of Letters raient.
Application filed July 3, 1920. Serial No. 393,961.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, HAROLD P. DEELY, a citizen of the United States, residing at vWaterbury, in the ycounty of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Swivel-Blocks for Heading-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to cold heading rivet machines and consists in the combinations and arrangements of elements hereinafter described and particularly set forth in the accompanying claims.
The invention has for its purpose to provide a swivel blockV for machines of this character which will permit of a simple and eiiicient means for conveniently adjusting the operative tools of the machine in order that each tool may be moved into its proper position without affecting the correct position of the other tool or tools.
A further purpose of the invention is to produce an adjustable swivel block which will do away with several parts now employed on cold heading rivet machines to the more simple in construction, easy and convenient for operation, and to reduce the cost of constructing the machine as a whole.
The invention is disclosed by way of illustration in the accompanying drawings wherein- Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of the device mounted on a machine;
Fig. 2 is a front elevational view of the swivel block holder;
Fig. 3, a top plan view thereof;
Fig. 4, a side elevational view of lthe same;
Fig. 5, a front elevational view of the swivel block holder per se;
and
Fig. 7 is a rear elevational view of the swivel block.
Referring to the construction further detailed and wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts in different views shown, 8 is a fixed part of the heading machine used for the purpose of illustration and 9 indicates the die held therein. The reciprocating gate 10 has suitably mounted thereon a lock 11 having mounted thereon the swivel block 12, and 13 indicates the usual stop screw having a set o r locking nut 14 as shown.
member 11 and Fig. 6, a side elevational view thereof,
The punch holder 12 is constructed with an integrally formed pivot to fit within the recess 15 in thev swivel block 16, and which block in turn is mounted to rotate within the recess or chamber 17 formed in the front face of the swivel block holder 11.
Mounted on the front of the punch holder 12 is a pair of punches 18 and 19 of any usual construction and adapted to be locked in position by the bolts 2O and 21 respectively; and said dies are adapted to be successively brought into alined position with respect to the die 9 as with machines of this type The means for securing the punch holder 12 to transfer slide or the block holder 11 consists of two bolts 23 passingthrough the having heads 24 countersunk therein, and each' of said bolts is tted with an ordinary tightening nut 25 screw threaded thereon as shown.
The device for imparting ne adjustment to the punch holder after the same has been initially secured to the block holder 11 consists of a pair of threaded pins or screws 26 (one being apertures 27 that enter the openings 28 through which the bolts 23 pass, and by means of these screws (adjusting screws 26) said punch holder may be slightly shifted from one position to another and such adjustment secured by tightening said pins 26 against the bolts 23 as will be understood.
It is obvious that those skilled in the art may vary the details of constructionand arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of my invention; therefore I do not wish to be limited to such features eX- cept as may be required by the claims.
Having thus described my invention what is claimed as new and tected by United States Letters Patent is 1. A die block holder for heading machines comprising a supporting member formed with a recess therein, an apertured block pivotally mounted within said recess, a swiveled die holder having a projection fitted within said apertured block, bolts for clamping the die holder to said support,
and screws coperable with said clamping bolts for effecting angular adjustment of the die holder, substantially as set forth.
' 2. A die holder for heading machines comprising a supporting member adapted Patented May 3, 1921. j
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
HAROLD P. DEELY.
