SANITARY PROTECTOR.
Specificatiomof Letters Patent.
Patented May 3, 1921.
Application filed February 14, 1920. Serial No. 358,600.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CATHERINE SoHoEN, citizen of the United States, residing at Scranton, in the .county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in'Sanitary Protectors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in protectors and particularly to catamenial appliances.
The principal object is to provide an 1mproved and efficient device of this character that can be conveniently and comfortably worn and afford the proper amount of protection to the clothing.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings:
Figure l is a perspective view of the protector applied.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the protector in the position when worn.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the protector in the position when worn.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawings, reference characters and 11 represent the patent back yoke portions of the protector which may be made of muslin or any suitable like material, these yokes being made of a single piece, and connected by a strip 12, this strip engaging the waist over one hip, while on the opposite of the yoke 10 and yoke 11 are respectively the tabs 13 and 14, these tabs being adapted to be secured at the waist over the other hip by any suitable fastening device as the hooks and eyes 15 shown. Attached to the lower edge of the yoke portion 10 is the front 16 of the pants portion, this being cut as shown and secured at its lower inwardly curved edge 21 to a similarly curved edge 22 of the back portion 23 'ofthe pants. The up- 7 per end of the portion 23 is adjustably secured to the lower edge of the rear yoke portion 11 by safety pins as shown. These portions 16 and 23 are formed of waterproof material or rubber sheeting. The back portion 23 extends higher than the front portion 16 as shown. The opposite sides of the pants and yoke portions are cut on the curved lines 24:, which form openings, which when in position permit the hips to protrude therethrough.
Attached to the pants portion of the pants 25 and 26 are suitable straps 27, these straps being intended to pass around the outside of the legs. In the drawings, as shown these straps 27 are formed of elastic and secured at their ends to the front and back of the pants portion. but it will be understood that ordinary tape may be attached to the front and back portions 16 and 23 and then tied around the legs.
WVhile I have described the protector as used by women, it will be readily understood that the same can be used on infants, and be worn over the ordinary diaper.
Claims:
1. A protector comprising a girdle having integral, downwardly extending front and rear flaps and fastening means over one hip, leg parts of a waterproof material formed in two parts and connected by a single transverse seam. said leg parts being fixedly secured to the bottom of the front flap of the girdle and adjustably securablc to said back flap.-
2. A sanitary protector comprising a belt having downwardly extending front and rear flaps, said belt adapted to seat over and expose the hips, and a waterproof pants I portion formed of front and rear parts joined by a single transverse seam, and secured permanently to said front flap and adjustably to said rear flap of the belt.
