Description

L. LUBIN.
WATCHCASE.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 12. 1920.
Patented May 3, 1921.
o m H N I m m w W Arm lug/1v ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WATCHGABE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 3, 1921-.
Application filed July 12, 1920. Serial No. 395,480.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Lnwr LUBIN, a citizen of Poland, and a resident of the city of New York, boron h of Manhattan, in the county of New Yor and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Watchcase, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in watch cases, and more particularly to a watch case having an improved construction and arrangement of center or reflector and improved construction and arrangement of back center or movement frame which supports any shape of movement in any shape of frame, the back center or movement frame being correspondingly shaped in accordance with the shape of the movement and the case so as to cover or fill u spaces at the outside of the movement in t e case.
A further object is to provide an angular watch case such as is especially adapted for use in connection with wrist watches having an improved construction and arrangement of parts which facilitate the manufacture and assemblage of the watch case and the accommodation of the movement and the result in a watch case which is neat and attractive in appearance, relatively economical to manufacture, and strong and durable in use.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is a view in front elevation illustrating a watch case embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a view in rear elevation showing the hinged back or cover of the watch case in open position.
Fig. 4 is an exag rated view in longitudinal section throng the watch case with the movement and crystal removed.
Figs. 5, 6, 7 and 8 are views in elevation or plan illustrating the four principal parts of my improved watch case.
My improved watch case comprises four parts; namely, a case front 1, a front center or reflector 2, a back center or movement frame 3 and a case back 4. In describing these parts, I am employing the terms by which they are ordinarily known in the trade.
The several parts 1, 2, 3 and 4 are shown of general oblong shape, but it is obvious that the invention is not limited to the precise shape of the case as I may employ any sha e desired.
he case front 1 is connected at one end to the case back 4 by means of a hinge 5 at one end of the case, said hinge comprising alined sleeves 6 and 7 on the case front and back respectively, and a hinge pin 8 positloned in said sleeves. The case front 1 is provided at its ends with strap or bracelet receivlng loops 9 which may be of any form desired. The front center or reflector 2 is of the same shape as the case front 1 and fits snugly within the same and is secured therein in any ap roved manner.
The case ront 1 has an opening 10 and the front center or reflector 2 has an openlng 11 to expose the watch dial, but the opening 11 in the case front in the center or reflector 2 is slightly smaller in all dimensions than the opening 10 of the case front so as to provides groove or ledge 13 for the accommodation of the watch crystal 14.
Furthermore, it will be noted that the side portions of the front center or reflector 2 extend beyond the edges of the case front so as to provide flanges or extensions over which the case back 4 snaps or springs tigptly into closed position.
he watch movement illustrated by the reference numeral 15 is positioned within the front center or reflector 2 with my improved back center or movement frame 310- cated around the movement and having corner plates 16 which fill in the corner spaces around the movement and hold the movement firmly.
It is to be understood that this back center or movement frame 3 will be externally shaped to fit within the front center or reflector. 2 and will be internally shaped so as to exactly conform to the shape of the movement and .cover all spaces in the watch case at the corners of the movement. For example, as illustrated in Fig. 3, the movement 15 to lit in the watch case such as illustrated is ordinarily rovided with beveled corners and the bee center or movement frame 3 has the corner lates 16 of the shape-and size to fill in t'e watch case at the corners of the movement, hence, the
movement is securely held and the frame covers all spaces and provides a neat and dustproof adjunct to the watch case as will be readily understood.
The watch case is provided with an opening 17 for the accommodation of the watch stem 18 and, as above stated, the case may be of various shapes to accommodate movements of various shapes, the frame 3 being of the pro er size and shape to compensate for the di erences in shape between the case and the movement.
Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts tlescri bed without departing from the invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A watch case, comprising a case front, a case back movable relative to the case front, a front center or reflector fitting snugly and fixedly within the case front and forming at the front a crystal receiving ledge and at the back a case back engaging flange, a hinge connecting the case front and the case back, and said case back adapted to snap over the flange of the reflector.
2. The combination with a watch movement of general angular shape having beveled corners, of a watch case, and a movement frame fitting the watch case and having plates at its corners fitting the beveled corners of the movement and covering the spaces formed thereby in the watch case.
3. A watch case, comprising a case front, a case back, a front center or reflector fitting in the case front and having an opening therein slightly smaller than the crystal receiving opening of the case front and extendin beyond the rear edge of the case front forming a flange or ledge over which the case back snugly fits, and a back center or movement frame fittin within the reflector and of an internal sfiape to fit around the movement to be positioned in the case.
