Description

F. METZLER.
CAP REMOVER.
APPLICATION men SEPT. 7. 1920.
1,376,562. Patented May 3, 1921.
fFedr/cl /Ve7z/er WITNESS: INVENTOR.
ATTORNEY.
PATENT OFFICE.
FREDRICK METZLER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
CAP-REMOVER.
Application filed September '7, 1920.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDRICK METZLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Gapliemovers, of which the following is a speci fication.
This invention has reference to a means for readily and easily removing a paper cap stopper from a bottle neck.
The object of the invention is to produce an article of this character which shall be of an extremely simple construction, cheap to manufacture, easily operated and thoroughly efficient in operation.
Other objects and advantages will present themselves as the nature of the invention is better understood, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the i111- provement.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Fig. 3 is a view illustrating the device in use.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a slight modification.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of another form of the improvement.
In the drawings the neck of a bottle is indicated by the numeral 5 and the paper stopper therefor by the numeral 6.
My improvement is constructed from a single piece of spring metal approximately centrally bent upon itself to provide spaced spring arms 7 and 8 respectively. The arm 8 is slightly longer than the arm 7, and the connecting portion between the arms is rounded. The T has its end pointed so that the same may be readily inserted in a paper cap, as illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawings. The arm 7 which provides the upper arm of the device has its outer end offset forming what I rill term foot and which is designated by the numeral 9. This foot portion 9, upon the inner face thereof is formed with depending prongs 10. The device is designed to be retained at an angle, as illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawings,
and when the pointed end of the lower arm is inserted in the milk or other bottle stop- Specifica ion of Letters Patent.

per the foot portion of the upper arm will be aranged approximately parallel to the outer surface of the said cap. A downward pressure upon the upper arm will bring the foot flat against the cap, causing the prongs to enter the cap, and thus insure the ready removal of the cap.
In Fig. 1- I have illustrated a slight modification, the construction, however, being substantially similar to that previously described except that the upper arm has its corners bent downwardly in the direction of the lower arm to provide a pair of spaced prongs 11-11.
In Fig. 5, the device is substantially similar to that described in the preferred embodiment of the improvement, having one pf its arms 8 pointed at the end thereof and its second arm 8 arranged at an upward angle at its end, as indicated by the numeral 12. The portion 12 is not provided with prongs, but the angle bend at the juncture of the said portion with the body of the arm 8 provides a biting element which contacts with the outer face of the cap when the prong is inserted through the cap in the process of removing the cap from the bottle neck.
' Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
1. A bottle cap remover comprising two integrally formed spring arms one having its outer end pointed and the other having its outer end offset, and the said offset end provided with inwardly extending prongs.
2. A bottle cap remover comprising two integrally formed spring arms, one having its outer end pointed and the other being of a less length than the first mentioned arm and having its corners downturned to provide two spaced prongs.
3. A. bottle cap remover comprising two integrally formed spring arms. one having its outer end pointed, the other being of a less length than the first mentioned arm and having its end arranged at an outward angle therefrom and providing a biting element at the tincture of the said arm with the said angle extension thereof.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
FREDRICK METZLER.
