I i' csepk Zandraek BY 72nd ATTORNEY p JOSEPH 151'. LANGROCK, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DEVICE FOR ATTACHING COVERS 'I'O C'EJ'SHIONS.
To all whom it may 00mm:
Be 1t known that I, JOSEPH H. LANGROCK,
a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Devices for Attaching Covers to Cushions or the like, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a detachable connection adapted to be used for securing cushion covers in place on cushions, and the object of this invention is to provide a fastening means for the purpose above mentioned adapted to attach an ornamental button or the like to a cushion or other articles, and adapted to form a means for fastening the cushion cover in place.
With these objects, and other objects whiclimay hereinafter appear in view, I have devised the particular arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth and more particularly pointed out in the claims appended hereto.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof in which-- Figure device.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectionalview of the same.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 2 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Fig. 41 is a sectional view on the line 44 of Fig. 2 looking in the direction of the arrowsand Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 5-5 of Fig. 2 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Throughout the various views of the drawings, similar reference characters designate similar parts.
In the preferred embodiment of my invention as disclosed in the accompanying drawing, 1 indicates a cushion or other article to which my improved securing means is adapted to be attached. At 2 is a plate or disk and at 3 is a similar plateor disk, one of these plates being on each side of the cushion and preferably at a central point thereon, said plates being connected by means of stitching 4 extending through the cushion 1 and joining the plates, recesses 5 being provided in the plates for the reception of stitches 4. Secured to and projecting upwardly from the plate 3 is a stud G'Which is 1 is a plan view of my improved Specification of Letters Patent.

surrounded by a coil spring 7 adapted to bear upwardly against a tubular follower 8 which slides on the stud 6. The stud 6 is provided with a recess 9 and the follower 8 is provided with a pin 10 which acts as a guide for the follower and is movable in the recess 9. The recess 9 restricts movement of the follower on the stud 6 and prevents the follower from becoming separated from the stud by pressure of the spring 7; At 11 is a button member having a domed head from which projects a threaded shank 12 secured in place on the head bymeans of a nut 13. At 14 is aspring clamping plate having a central aperture through which the threaded shank 12 passes and also havng an upturned scalloped or serrated edge the threaded shank 12 is passed through the contracted opening 19 in the covering 16. At 17 is the button covering which preferably consists of a piece of cloth contracted over the head of the button 11 by means of a draw string 20, the draw string and contracted portion of the covering being on the underface of the .button 11.
It will be seen that when the threaded shank 14: is threaded into a recess 21 provided in the upper end of the stud 9 to receive it, the follower 8 is thrust'against the clamping plate 1 1 by the spring 7 causing said plate to be forced against the button head 11 with the cushion covering 16 and the button covering 17 held intermediate of the clamp 14 on the underface of the button head 11. It will be seen by means of this arrangement the cushion covering 16 is detachably secured to the cushion but can be readily removed therefrom by simply unthreading the threaded shank 12 from its recess 21 by'rotation of the button head 11.
While I have referred to this device as being applicable for attaching a cushion covering to a cushion, it will be understood that the same can be used for any purpose where it is desired to detachably secure a button in position and particularly where the button is adapted to be used for bolding a covering of any kind in place.
From the foregoing, it is obvious that my invention is not to be restricted to the exact embodiment shown but is broad enough i received in said projection, a clamping plate for detachably receiving said button member and holding the same and a spring.
pressed plate forced against the underside ofthe button member. 7
2. A device of the class described comprising a plate, a button member, a stem on V the button member, means on the plate for a receiving said stem and a spring-pressed clamping plate between the button member and the plate movable against the under face of the button member. 7
3. A. device of the class described comprising a plate, a button member, a threaded stem on said button member, means on the plate for receiving said threaded stem, a clamping plate, and a spring for forcing said clamping plate against the under face of the button member. r
LA device of the class described com prising a plate, a projection thereon, a button having a stem adapted to be detachably plate below the button and a spring surrounding the projection and adapted to force the clamping plate against the button.
5. A device of the class described'comprising a button, a clamping plate below the same, means for holding said button and resilient means bearingagainst the under face of said clamping plate and thrusting the same against the under face of the button member.
6. A device of the class described comprising a plate, a stud thereon, a button, a
means for securing the same forcing .prlsing a button,
threaded shank extending plate.
threaded shank on said button, said stud having a recess adapted to receive the shank, a spring surrounding the stud, a plate and means actuated by the spring for the plate against the button. 7.1A device of the class described comprising a' plate having a. plurality of threadreceiving recesses, a projection on said plate, means on the projection for receiving said shank, a spring and a clamping plate forced against the button by said spring. c
8. A device of the class described commeans for securing the same. to a fabric, a shank on said button,
said shank comprising athreaded stem, a
plate and a member on said plate adapted to receive said threaded stem. j
. 9. A device of the class described com-. prising a button having a domed head, a
shank extending therefrom, means for detachably holding said button comprising a plate and a projection thereon, a movable clamping plate and lower on .the projection adapted to exert pressure on said clamping plate. i
10. A device of the class described comprising a button having a domed head, a from said head, stud thereon having a recess detachably receive said shank, a clamping plate on the under side of said head, a spring for forcing said clamping plate against the button head and a plurality of thread-receivingrecesses in the a plate, a adapted to Signed at the city, county and State of New York, this 29th day of December, 1920.
