LAUNDRY-TUB.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 5, 1921.
Application filed- March 3, 1920. Serial No. 363,026.
1 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAUDE SHUL'rs, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Johnsville, in the county of Montgomery and State of New York, have invented certain 'new and useful Improvements in Laundry-Tubs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to laundrytubs, and more particularly to a wash-board therefor.
The primary object of this invention resides in the provision of a wash-board which is stationary with the laundry tub.
Another object of this invention resides in the provision of a wash-board which is stationary with the laundry tub and of such construction that a free circulation of'water is permitted to pass in various directions therethrough during the rubbing of clothes thereon.
Another object of this invention resides in the provision of a wash-board which is stationary with the laundr tub and of such construction that the was ing of fine fabrics is permitted with the minimum possibility of being damaged.
A still further object of this invention resides in the provision of a wash-board formed integral with the laundry tub and 0 the same material thereof.
A still further object of this invention resides in the provision of a wash-board which is stationary with the laundry tub and constructed along scientific lines to readily insure the maximum efficiency in cleaning fabrics.
With these and other obyects in view, this invention resides in certaln novel features of construction to be hereinafter more particularly set forth in the specification, illustrated 1n the accompanying drawing and ointed out in the appended claims, it bemg understood that such changes in construction can be resorted to as come within the scope of the claims.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a cross sectional view through a laundry tub, constructed in accordance with this invention;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of a laundry tub illustrating the preferred form of wash-board carried thereby;
Fig. 3 is a detailed sectional view on line 3-3 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a cross sectional view of a modified form of wash-board.
In the present embodiment of my invention the letter A designates a laundry tub of any preferred plastic material from the wall B of which is supported a stationary washboard 10.
In Figs. 1, 2 and 3, is illustrated the preferred form of this invention wherein the wash-board 10 is formed integral with the tub and of the same material, said tub and wash-board after being baked or otherwise hardened is preferably coated with a suitable enamel for well recognized reasons.
The aforesaid wash-board consists of a plurality of spaced substantially triangular or other suitably shaped slats 12 which are formed integral with side rails 14 that are supported by posts 16. formed integral with the wall B of the tub A. The rails 14 and posts 16 diverge from the scrubbing surface of the wash-board in order that a gradual incline will exist at the sides of the washboard and further to increase the area of connection between the material of the wall J5 and said posts 16.
At the juncture of the slats 12 and rails 14, the opposed inner walls 18 of the rails are gradually curved outwardlyas at 20 to prevent injury to the fabric being scrubbed and to permit a free action of the water during its displacement by the clothes.
Formed by the increased area of surface resulting in constructing the wash-board and tub, as illustrated in the preferred forms of this invention, is a shelf 22 in which is formed a depression 24, especially adapted to be used for retaining a cake of soap in convenient reach of the laundress, but is equally as useful for straining bluing therethrough or draining the shelf with clothes thereon.
In the modified form of this invention, disclosed in Fig. 4, the washboard is secured to the tub in any suitable manner though the present illustration employs the use of fastening elements 26. This wash board may be made from plastic material or metal and treated with a coating of enamel to present a sanitary article for constant use.
With this invention fully set forth, it is manifest that a universal necessity is produced which is comparatively cheap of manufacture, readily adapted to withstand the usage to which such articles are subjected and constructed to especiallyeliminate damage to the fabrics to be washed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is l. A wash tub having an inclined side and a wash board formed integral with said inclined side, said board comprising' Laram e and the top edge of the board with the clined side, said side members and outer faces of the posts diverging from the operative face of theboard.
2. A wash tub having an inclined side, a wash board located on said inclined side and having its lower face spaced from said side and supporting parts at the corners of the board integrally connected with both the board and the inclined side.
In testimony whereof I aifix n1 signature.
