Description

.I. F. SCHWElZER-CAILLAUX. HAT PROTECTOR.
APPLICATION FILED ocr.31,1919.
Patented Apr. 5, 1921. I
ms ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JEAN FREDERIC SGHWEIZER-CAILLAUX, OF VINCENNES, FRANCE.
HAT-PROTECTOR.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEAN Fniininro SoHWEIzER-CAILLAUx, citizen of the Republic of Switzerland, residing at 130 Rue de Paris, Vincennes, Seine, in the Republic of F rance, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hat-Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
by the wearer in a pocket or handbag when not in use. 1
In the. accompanying drawing given by way of example:
Fi re 1 is a sectional elevation along the line XX of Fig. 2, showing a cover forhats constructed in accordance with the invention. I
Fig. 2 is an inverted plan View of the same.
Fig. 3 is a View similar to Fig. 2 showing the cover in position on a hat and illustrating also the securing means for the same.
The improved cover is made of a waterproof fabric cut out and sewn so as to provide a top part 6 and a rim part 1. Wide tapering teeth 2 are cut out in the rim 1 along its whole outer edge, the-ends 3 of said teeth being folded down and sewn to the lower face of the rim so as to provide loops 5. A braid, strlng or ribbon 4 is in- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 5, 1921.
Application filed 0ctober 31, 1919. I Serial No. 334,692.
serted in said loops as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. This device may be conveniently carried n a pocket when folded. In case of need, it is, unfolded and secured upon the hat, the toothed edge overhanging the edge of the T1111. By simply pulling the two ends of the string 4 together, the toothed edge will be folded down under the rim as shown 1n Fig. 3 and the cover will be secured firmly in position upon the hat whereby the latter will be protected in all of its parts which are liable to be damaged. The cover can be made in an extremely simple manner. A blank comprising the top part 6 of the cover and the rim 1 is preferably cut out from the impervious material, the two elements are then separated, the rim is prepared as hereinbefore described and the side band 7 is finally secured by sewing to the parts 1 and 6. y
, Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A hat cover of waterproof material, comprising a flexible cover body having taper- .ing teeth formed at its outer edge, the ends of which teeth are folded down and secured tothe cover so as to form loops, and a flexible'member adapted to be inserted in said loops.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHAS. P. PRnssLY, LOUIS Moses.
