Description

E. F. WILDER.
Chest-Protectors.
No. 137,275. Patented March 25, 1873.
AM, P/faa-L/mosnAPH/c co. Massale/vele Pnacass) i UNITED STATES EDWARD WILDER, OF WEST ROXBURY, ASSIGNOR TO JAMES W.
OF MEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS.
PATENT OFFICE.
Terms,
IMPROVEMENT IN CHEST-Puoi'ec'rous.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 137,27 5, dated March 25, 1873.
To all lwhom it may concer-n:
Be it known that I, EDWARD F. VILDER, of West Roxbury, in the county of Norfolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Chest and Lung Protectors, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawing making part ot'this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a chest and lung protector made in accordance with my invention, a portion being broken away to show the construction. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section (enlarged) through a portion of the same.`
This invention consists in a chest or lung protector composed of two thicknesses ot' felt, annel, or other material suited to the purpose, with a iihn or thin layer of rubber or gutta percha placed between them,-whereby the protector is rendered impervious to air and moisture. The ordinary chest-protector often becomes wet through from perspiration after Violent exercise when worn next to the skin, as is done by many people; and when thus wet through it soon becomes cold, to the great discomfort and injury of the wearer. Now, when I place my thin film of rubber between the two thicknesses of fiannel or felt, it' the inner thickness should become wet from perspiration, it is impossible for the air to strike through the outer thickness (which remains dry) and the film of rubber, so as to render the inner thickness cold, uncomfortable, and umnhealthy.
To enablev others skilled in the art to understand and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the manner in which I have carried it out.
In the said drawing, A represents my improved protector for the chest or lungs, or both.
This protector is composed of two pieces or Claim.
What I claim as my. invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent as a new article of manufacture, is-
A chest or lung protector, composed of two thicknesses of felt, flannel, or other suitable material, with a lin or thin layer of rubber or gutta percha placed between them, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
Witness my hand this 19th day of N ovem ber, A. D. 1872.
EDWARD F. WILDER. In presence of- P. E. TEscHEMAoHER, MILo N. ROBBINs.
