Our invention, in the first place, relates to providing the weighted lever with a lip at its inner end, which bears against the head of the valve-stem to arrest the upward movement of the lever as soon as the valve has receded back ofthe discharge-opening. In the second place it relates to a bifurcated hook, which partly surrounds a neek of the valvesten'', and as the lever is elevated by the operation draws the valve fromv its seat if it should happen to stick and the pressure of steam should not be sufficient to remove it.

Like letters in all the iigures indicate the ment, D', at the outer end of the lever, of suitable weight for closing the valve as the surface f on the inner end of the lever bears against the head g of the valve.' The lever is provided with a lip, h, at such a distance below the head g, when it is in its downward position, as seen in Fig. 1, that it shall. strike against the head when the valve has been Withdrawn far enough from its seat to open the outlet-openin g b, and thus to regulate the motion of the valve to its requisite extent and prevent it being blown out by the steam. The lever is also provided with a bifurcated hook, h', which partly surrounds the neck i of the valve, so that when it is elevated by the operator the hook shall draw the valve away from its seat if it should happen to stick.
We claim as our invention- 1. The combination of the valve B with the lip h on the inner end of the lever D for arresting its upward movement, in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination of the valve B and the bifurcated hooks h on the lever D, for drawing the valve from its seat, substantially as specitie A 3. The combination of the body A, the cylindrical valve B, anda Weighted lever with the lip g and hook h, substantially as described.
