Description

E. HUSI. SUPPORT FOR PHOTOGRAPHIC APPARATUS.

UNITED STATES ERNST HlllSI, F SOLOTHURN, SWITZERLAND.
SUPPORT FOR PHO'lOG-RAPI-IIC APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 22, 1921.
Application filed August 26, 1920. Serial No. 406,1?4.
To all w 7mm it may concern lle it known that 1, Easter Hiisi', a citizen of the Republic of Switzerland, residing at Solothurn, in the Canton of Solothurn, Switzerland, have invented new and use- :lul lmprovements in Supports for Photogra 'ihic Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a support for attachment of photographic apparatus to articles of different kinds, which consists of a vise with a clamping screw and an adjustable supporting arm for the apparatus connected by a ball oint with the vise. Flupports of this kind have already been known but are not tound very satisfactory, particularly because of their instability, the laclt oi": freedom of movement of the photographic apparatus and also on account of the circumstance that such supports can be attached only to articles the dimensions at which suit the vise.
In the support forming the subject of the present invention these disadvantages are avoided by forming the clanipin jaw of the vise with orooves or recesses so illltLIlgGtl that the vise grips objects with fiat or rounded surfaces at least at three separate points, by arranging the supporting on the outer end of the vise at the end oi the clamp in jaw and by providing a connecting piece by which the support may be attached to any wooden article which the vise cannot grip.
The invention illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figures 1, 2 and 4: show the support in iii-out elevation, in side cle'ation, and in plan respectively.
Fin. 2:? shows a wood screw adapted to serve a. a connectingpicce "for the support.
The support shown consists of a vise 1 having a clamping aw 2 and a clamping screivl. The clamping; jaw 2 is wedgeshaped and pointed and formed with an oj ieningg at it is formed also with two lateral indentations 5 as well as a groove ('3 running in a longitudinal direction. (in the body of the clamping jaw is mounted the adjustable supporting; arm 7 to which the photographic apparatus is screwed. For this purpose the arm is tormedwith a screwthreaded portion 8. The supporting arm is connected by a ball joint 9 with the vise 1 and can therefore be tilted to any angle as desired. In the socket member 11 are provided two grooves which permit the sup porting arm 7 to be turned through more than 180 in the plane of the vise. By means of a wing-nut 1'12 the arm 7 can be locked in the desired position. As the ball joint and the locking device are well known no further description thereof appears necessary.
The support described can be fastened directly by means of the vise to any object whether the latter has flat or rounded sur- 1 8.065; as the clamping jaw, by reason of the grooves 5 and 6, insures a tight grip. In or a wooden object cannot be gripped by the vise there is provided for fastening to wooden objects a connecting piece in the form of a wood screw 13. The latter, as shown in dotted lines in Figs. 1, and 2, is clamped in the groove 6 of the vise 1 so that the support can be firmly secured to the wooden object.
Having now fully described my said in vention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. 111 a support for photographic apparatus, the combination of a vise having a clamping screw and a clamping jaw provided with two lateral indentations and a groove running in a longitudinal direction, a supporting arm mounted at the outer end of the vise and on the body of the said clamping jaw, a ball joint connecting the supporting arm with the vise, and means for permitting the tilting of said arm to an angle 01'' more than 90 in the plane of said vise.
2. In the herein-described support for photographic apparatus, the combination with a vise having; a clamping screw and a clamping; jaw provided with two lateral indentations and a groove running in a longitudinal direction, of a supporting; arm mounted at the outer end of the vise and on the body ot' the said clamping jt fv', a ball-joint connecting the supporting arm with the vise, and a wood-screw adapted to be fitted in the aforesaid groove and clamped therein by the clamping; screw, all substantially as andfor the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
ERNST I-IUSI.
