UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD T. LEE, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR, BY DIRECT AND MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO INTERLOCKING CONCRETE TILE COMPANY, 01'! LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, A CORPORATION OF CALIFORNIA.
WALL CONSTRUCTION.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 22, 1921.
Application filed December 5, 1918. Serial No. 265,447.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD T. Lee, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented newand useful Improvements in Wall (lonstructlons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to wall constructions and consists of the novel features hereto in shown, described and claimed.
My object is to produce a simplified c011- struction for building up a wall from concrete blocks.
Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective of a wall constructed in accordance with the principles of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a perspective of one of the b1nding blocks.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary perspective of one of the facing blocks.
Referring to Fig. 1, the wooden studs 1 and 2 are a part of the frame of the building. The binding block 3 is placed against the right-hand side of the stud 1, and the E5 binding block 4; is placed against the same right-hand side of the stud 2. Then the facing blocks 5, 6 and 7 are applied to the front sides of the studs 1 and 2 and joining with the binding blocks 3 and 4 to make the front face of the lower tier a of the wall. Similar facing blocks are applied against the rear sides of the studs 1 and 2 in connection with the binding blocks 3 and 4: to make the rear face of the lower tier a. Then the binding blocks 8 and 9 are placed upon the facing blocks 5 and 6 both at the front and rear and at the left-hand sides of the studs 1 and 2, and facing blocks 10, 11 and 12 are applied in connection with the bindto ing blocks 8 and 9 to make the second tier 6. Then binding blocks 13 and Marc placed upon the facing blocks 11 and 12 against the right-hand sides of the studs 1 and 2, and the facing blocks 15, 16 and 17 are applied to make the third tier 0, and in a like manner other binding blocks and facing blocks may be applied to make a wall of any desired dimension. After the binding blocks andfacing blocks are applied to build up the wall, plaster or any desired finish may be applied to the outer faces of the blocks.
The binding blocks 3, 4, 8, 9, 13 and 14; are identical in shape and construction, and each binding block is an irregular cube having a roughened exposed face 18 at one side, and a similar roughened exposed face 19 at the opposite side and having fiat end faces 20 and 21 and flat intermediate side faces 22 and 23, there being V-shaped grooves 2 1 and 25 along the sides of the face 22 and simi lar V- shaped grooves 26 and 27 along the sides of the face 23.
The facing blocks 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 15, 16 and 17 are substantially alike, and each facing block is a thin slab having a roughened exposed outer face 28 and a plain inner face 29, fiat edges 20 and 31, and Ashaped ends 32 and 33. The flat edges 30 and 31 are the same distance apart as the faces 20 and 21, and the A-shaped ends 32 and 33 fit in the grooves 2 1, 25, 26 and 27, so that when the blocks are placed together a comparatively even wall is produced to which plaster, or the like, may be readily applied.
Various changes may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention as claimed.
I claim:
In a wall construction, binding blocks adapted to extend the width of the wall having vertical V shaped grooves in their side faces adjacent to the outer and to the inner faces, and thin facing blocks having tongues at each end to match and fit the V shaped grooves of the binding blocks, so that when assembled the outer faces of the facing blocks will be flush with the faces of the binding blocks.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
EDWARD T. LEE.
