Toallwhomtmay. comm.: Be itknown that I, JOSEPH Sarno, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new i and useful Improvements in Razor-Blade- Sharpening Devices, of which the followin is a specification.
he primary object of the inventlon 1s the provision of a holder for a safety razor blade during the honing or sharpening thereof, the device being simple in construction and of great strength being substantially everlasting.
A further object of the invention 1s the provision of a razor blade holder 1n which a blade is readily inserted and rigidly retained for sharpening the same, the holding means being reversible and the blade easily removed upon releasing the holder.
With these eneral objects in view, the invention consists of the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described in connection with the accompanying drawin and in which like reference characters esignate corresponding parts throughout the several views.

The operation of sharpening the removable blade of a safety razor is usually rendered dilicult by reason of the fact that it is a hard matter to hold the thin blade rigidly when applying the edge of the blade to the Shar ening member such as a razor strop. My invention broadly consists of two strips 10 and 11 of resilient metal such as steel secured together at one end by a rivet 12 with the main portions of the strips having separating tendency byl reason of their resiliency for positioning t e device open as illustrated in ig. 3 of the drawing.
The strips 10 and 11 have corresponding plate portions 13 and 14 respectively ad` jacent the connected end of the device adapted for the reception of a razor blade 15 therebetween with the edge portion of the blade suiciently projecting from the device to permit the employment of the sharpening member. Reduced handle portions 16 and 17 of the strips 10 andi 11 respectively, are adapted for fiat contacting enga ement when the device is closed with the b ade 15 held between the plate portions of the strips, centering pins 18 carried by the strip 10 being received through alining perforations 19 of the strip 11.
The free end portion of the handle part 17 of the strip 11 is severed transversely upon an arcuate line 20 forming a latch 21 pivoted by means of a rivet 22 to the adjacent end portion of the strip 16. The adjacent edges of the latch 21 and handle portion 17 at the line of severance 20 are complementally beveled as at 23 and 24 respectively, whereby the strip 11 is retained flatly contacting the strip 10 by swinging the latch 21 upon its pivot 22 so that the oblique face 23 of the latch overlies the face 24 at the free end of the strip handle 17.
Upon inserting the blade 15 to the desired extent between the plate portions 13 and 14, the strips 10 and 11 are forcibly brought together with the pins 18 in the perforations 19 and the latch 21 is then swung over the free end of the strip 11 retaining the device closed with the blade 15 rigidly held for sharpening as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing. Upon swinging the latch 21 to its released position, noted by dotted lines in Fig. 6, the strips 10 and 11 will spring apart of their own resiliency as shown in Fig. 3, releasing the blade 15 for removal from the device. The opposite edge portions of the strips 10 and 11 are beveled as at 25 to substantially cutting edges 26 whereby the exposed portion oi-5 the blade 15 is capable of more ready engagement with the stropping member, it being understood that the strips 10 and 11 are formed of thin metal so that the entire device when closed presents very little thickness and the handle portion 16, 17 is readily grasped by the operator.
The complete o ration of the invention will be apparent rom this detailed description thereof and it will be understood that changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
What is claimed as new is: f
1. A razor blade holder comprising thin strips of resilient metal connected together at one of the ends thereof and adapted for the reception of a razor blade adjacent the connected ends, one of said strips being shorter than the other with a beveled :tree end and a latch pivoted adjacent the free end of the other strip of a configuration similar to said strip and having an edge beveled complementally with respect to the first mentioned edge adapted for overlying the same when the device is closed with the strips in flat engagement with each other.
2. A blade holder comprising strips of resilient metal having corresponding plate portions at one end of the strip and outwardly beveled at the side edges thereof, a rivet connecting the strips adjacent the outer endsof the plate portions, inwardly projecting guide pins carried by one strip,
the other strip having perforations adapted to aline with said pins when the strips are moved adjacent each other7 one of said strips being Vsevered upon an arcuate line at a point spaced from the inner end thereof forming a latch plate and pivotal conne@l tions between said latch plate and the other strip whereby said latch plate is adapted for swinging in retaining position overlying the adjacent end of the severed lstrip when the device is closed.
