To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Vroron H. JENNINGS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Worcester, in the county of Worcester, State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Pocketed- Carrier Equipments, of which the following is a specification,reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

The invention has relation to Woven pocketed carriers of the class including cartridge-carriers and various other carriers having special adaptations.

More particularly, the invention relates to the pocket flaps or covers of carriers of the said class.

The invention consists, firstly, in a pocketed carrier of novel construction having a pocketfiap or cover which in being woven has been adapted to inclose by a depending flange thereof the front and the two lateral sides of a carrier-pocket. The invention consists further in a pocketed carrier having such a flap or cover woven as an integral portion of the carrier of which it is a part. It consists further in an improved pocketed carrier provided with a woven con tinuous box flap or cover serving for a plurality of pockets. It includes the feature of disposing the fastener-devices in connection with a pocket-flap or cover in positions which are removed from their customary location at the front of pocket. It consists further in an expansible pocket-flap or cover. Other features of the invention are pointed out hereinafter. I

The carrier which is partly shownin the drawings is one that has been woven with plurality of pockets located side by side. As will be apparent from Figs. 1, 2, and l, the pockets are practically smooth fronted, since the fastener-devices are absent from the pocket fronts. The fastener-devices are shielded by reason of being located in the recesses at the sides of a pocket, where they are out of the way, and are protected, although they readily may be reached and manipulated as desired.

.The pocketed carrier-web with its continuous box flap or cover 4 is woven in a loom in the flat state represented in Figs. 6 to 9. The pockets are produced by wellknown procedure inweaving, with their closed bottoms located at one margin of the carries web, and their open mouths adjacent the other margin thereof, as indicated in the said figures. The flap or cover l is produced longitudinally folded upon itself, preferably with a longitudinal infold as in Figs. 8 and 9, and with the flange 4 overlapping the pocket-fronts. By reason of being produced with the longitudinal fold, the flap or cover is adapted to expand in the direction from front to rear so as to fit over a filled pocket and its contents as in Figs. d and 5. In these last views the flap or cover is shown expanded, with its top consequently flattened down over the pocket-mouth and the pocket-contents. The depth of the fold is proportioned to the capacity of the flap or cover, from front to rear, required to suit the corresponding capacity of the pocket. By varying the depth of the fold, the said capacity of the flap or cover maybe made to correspond with pockets of any required capacity. The return bends 4e, l, which are produced in the flap or cover when the latter is woven in the folded state that is i cover are woven with fullness at each lateral side of a pocket, as at l 4. Such fullness is produced by introducing additional picks of weft in such portions of the cover.

If it is desired to give a definite fixed shaping to the flap or cover at the lateral sides of a pocket, the back portion of the infold maybe bound or tied in the weaving to the back web-portion ofthe carrier at such places, as in Fig. 10; or the flange and the front portion of the said infold may be bound or tied together as in Fig. 11; or in case the flange is not a deep one, the flange and infold together'may be thus tied to the said back web-portion as in Fig. 12.

The manner of forming the fold in the expanding cover, and other details of construction, may vary more'or less in practice. Other forms of fastener-devices may be employed.

In some cases, certain of the features of the invention may be embodied in.a carrier comprising a single pocket, and are not necessarily restricted to employment in connection with pockets produced complete by the weaving PI'OCQSS.

The drawings show carrier pockets designed to be occupied by a single clip of cartridges. The shape, proportions, and capacity of the pockets of carriers vary in practics, and the flaps or covers thereof embodying the features of the invention will vary corresponding in the same particulars.

What is claimed as the invention is 1. ll pocketed carrier of woven material having an outstanding pocket-pouch and lateral web portions at opposite sides of said pouch, and having connected therewith atthe rear ofthe pocket a cover with a flange which ektends down in front of the pocket and the said lateral web-portions, and which is woven with fullness at each lateral side of the pouch to enable it to fit against the pouch-sides and the lateral web-portions, and fastenings which-engage the flange with the web-portions rearward of the pocketfront.

2. A pocketed carrier of woven material comprising a series of outstanding pocketpouches and lateral web-portions alternating with the pouches, and having connected with it at the rear of the pockets a continu ous cover for said series provided with a flange which extends down in front of the pouches and also the said web-portions and which is woven with fullness at each side of a pouch to enable the flange to fit against the pouch sides and the lateral web-portions, and fastenings which engage the flange with the said alternating web-portions relatively rearward of the pocket-fronts.

A pocketed carrier of woven material having an outstanding pocket-pouch and lateral web-portions at opposite sides of said pouch, and having woven at the rear of the pocket a cover with a flange which extends down in front of the pocket and the said lateral web-portions and which is woven with fullness at each lateral side'of the pouch to enableit to fit againstthe pouch-sides and the web-portions, and fastenings which engage the flange with the web-portions rearward of the pocket-front. 4. A pocketed carrier of Woven material comprising a series of outstanding pocketpouches and lateral web-portions alternating with the pouches, and having woven at the rear of the pockets a continuous cover for said series with a flange which extends down in front of the pouches and said web-portions, and which is woven with fullness at each side of a pouch to enable the flange to fit against the pouch sides and the lateral web-portions, and fastenings which engage the flange with the said alternating webportions relatively rearward of the pocketfronts.

5. A pocketed carrier of woven material, having a plurality of pockets and provided with a continuous flap or cover with a flange which extends down at the front and sides of the respective pockets, with fastener-deices fastening the flange of said flap or cover against the back of the carrier at points adjoining the pockets, at opposite sides of the respective pockets and intermediate the latter.

6. A pocketed carrier of Woven material provided with a plurality of pockets and having a continuous flap or cover which has been woven in boxed form fitting around individual pockets as an integral portion of the carrier, with fastener-devices fastening the flap or cover against the back of the carrier at points adjoining the pockets at opposite sides of the latter and intermediate the pockets.

'7. A pocketed carrier of woven material provided with a flap or cover woven shaped to fit the top and front of the pocket and having as woven a longitudinal fold adapting it to expand forwardly to fit the top of the pocket.

8. A. pocketed carrier of woven material having a plurality of pockets and provided with a continuous flap or cover woven shaped to fit the tops andfronts of the respective pockets and having as Woven a longitudinal fold adapting it to expand forwardly to fit:

9. A pocketed carrier of woven material provided with a flap or cover having as expand forwardly to fit the top of the said pocket. I 11. A woven pocketed carrier having a pluralityofpockets, and provided with an integral continuous flap or cover with a flange adapted to fit the fronts and lateral sides of the respective pockets, and also having as woven a longitudinal fold adapting it to expand forwardly to fit the tops of the said pockets.

12. A woven pocketed carrier having a plurality of pockets, and provided with an integral continuous flap or cover with a flange adapted to fit the fronts and lateral sides of the respective pockets, and also having as woven a longitudinal fold adapting it to expand forwardly to fit the tops of the said pockets, with fastener-devices fastening the said flange against the back of the carrier at points adjoining the pockets, at opposite sides of the respective pockets.
