WALTER L. BOCKOVER, OF TIPTON, INDIANA.
WRENCH.
Application filed October 29, 1920.
To all 20710722, it may concern:
Be it known that l, WALTER L. Boono. n2, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tlipton, in the county oi? Tipton and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful rench, of which the following is specification.
This invention has reference to tools, and more particularly to wrenches, it being the primary object of the invention to provide a wrench which will automatically adjust itself to the article to which th same is applied.
A further object o1 the invention is to provide a device of this character which will increase its gripping action on the ar ticle. during the rotation oi the rench to position the pipe or article under operation. I
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds. the invention r sides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope what is claimed, ithout departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing Figure .l illustrates a plan view of a wrench constructed in accordance with the present invention.
i Fig. is an elevational view of the wrench.
F b is a 3-3 oi Fi i Fig. ris a ll or" Fig. 1
Referring to the drawing in detail, the wrench includes ahead and a handle section 6, the head comp ectional view taken on line sectional view taken on line icing a pair of circular nieinoers 'l' disposed in spaced relation with each other as by means of the semicircular member 8, there being provided securing bolts 9 passing through suitable openings in the circular members 7 and spacing memberS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 8, 1921.
Serial No. 420,417.
Formed in one of the walls of the members and 8 are the teeth 10, which teeth cooperate with the teeth 11 formed on one nd oi the handle 6 for gripping a pipe or in like to accomplish the rotation thereof, 1e portion of the handle 6 on which the eeth Ill are formed, being inclinedto insure 1 firm gripping of the article under opera- 1o- The handle portion 6 is pivotaliy supported between the circular members 7 at a point intermediate the ends of the semicircuiar member 8, as by means of the pivot pin 12.
In the use of the device, the head is positioned over a pipe or the like, and the handle is rotated to cause the teeth 11 thereof to force the pipe into engagement with the teeth 10 whereupon the pipe is gripped between the wrench and teeth. It is obvious that when the handle portion is moved in the opposite direction, the teeth release their hold on the pipe, and the Wrench is per-' mitted to move on the pipe, whereupon the same may be gripped by pressure brought to bear on the handle 6.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is h wrench including a head and handle section, said head comprising rigid circular plates, means disposed between the plates supporting the plates in spaced relation with each other, said handle portion being pivotally supported between the plates and having one end thereof lying within the confines of the circular plates and having teeth formed on one ed 'e thereof, and said plates having teetn adapted to cooperate with the teeth ol the handle portion.
in testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto athxed my signatnre the presence of two witnesses- WALTER L. BOCKOVER.
Witnesses lVILLIAar H. KNAUsE, AUDRA MILLER.
