To ail whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WHEELER H. VIBBER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New London, in the county of New London and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Elbow-Fittings for Electric Installations;-and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and re resent, in-

My invention relates to an improved elbow-fitting for electric installation, the object being to produce at a low cost for manufacture, a simple and'etlective fitting con-.
structed with particular reference to compactness of form, attractiveness of appearance, convenience of access, non-liability to breakage and cheapness and room-economy of installation.
With these ends in view my invention consists in an elbow-fitting for electric installation, comprising arms standing at an angle to each other and respectively formed wlth integral threaded collars for the. reception of the conduit-pipes. My invention further consists in an elbow-fitting for electric installation having certain details of construction as will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In carrying out my invention as herein shown, my improved elbow-fitting consists of a laterall open body consisting of two arms 2 and standing at an angle to each other and respectively formed with integral inwardly extending internally threaded ends of the two pipe-conduits 6 and i L0 be connected by the fitting. 'lhe said body is inclosed in a sheet-metal hood 8 held in place by a longscrew 9 passing through perforations 10 in the inner corners of its sides and through a deep external groove 11 formed by setting or folding inward the inner ends of the arms 2 and 3 where they merge into each other, this groove extending transversely to the said arms and located at the apex of the bod 'Ilhe body of the fitting as thus constructed 1s laterally open on both sides, whereby free access is afi'orded to the inner ends of the conduit-pipes when the hood 8 is removed. Furthermore, as the collars 4 and 5, which receive the ends of the pipes are reversed, so to speak, and extend inward nto the fitting, the protection of the pipes is insured and the fitting is adapted to be directly abutted against the surfaces with whlch it may come in contact whereby econ omy of room is secured in the installation. By preference, the bod of the fitting is made of a single piece oi sheet-metaland it 1s o bvious that-they may be arranged at any desired angle. Its respective arms are thus given sufficient relative flexibility to accommodate strains and avoid breakage.v However, I do not limit myself to Inaking the body-portion of wrought metal as it may be cast if preferred.
While I have shown and described my improved fitting as havin inwardly extending integral collars for t e reception of the threaded ends of the conduit-pipes, the collarsmay be extended outward rather than inward, this reversal of position being within the purview of my invention. However, when the said collars are extended inward as shown, they may be made with inwardly turned ends to form abutments 12 for the ends of the pipes. This cannot, of course, be done when the collars are extended outwardly as suggested. In Fig. 4 I have shown a fitting in which. one of the integral collars is turned outward and one turned inward, though both might be turned outward.

1. An elbow-fitting for electric installation, having a body formed with integral internally threaded collars standing at an angle to each other and with an external transverse groove at its apex, and a hood shaped to fit over and inclose the said body,

An elbow-fitting for electric installahaving a body formed with integral, internally threaded collars standing at an angle to each other and with a transverse external groove located at its apex, ahood shaped to fit over and inclose the said body, and a screw passing through the inner corners of the sides of the said hood and through the said groove for fastening the body and hood together.
4. An elbow-fitting for electric installation, having a quadrant-shaped body formed with integral, internally threaded collars standing at a right angle to each other and with a transverse external groove locatedat its apex, a quadrant-shaped hood shaped to fit over and inclose the said body, and a screw passing through the inner corners of the sides of the said hood and through the its apex, and a hood fitting over the said body and secured thereto by a screw located in the said groove.
6. An elbow-fitting for electric installation having a laterally open, quadrantshaped two-armed body consisting of two arms standing at a right angle to each other, each having an integral inwardly extending internally threaded sleeve and having an external transverse groove at its apex, and a quadrant-shaped hood fitting over the said .body and secured thereto by a screw located in the said groove.
