UNITED STATES PATENT oFrlcE.
ERNEST D. GARDNER, OF MALTBY, WASHINGTON.
.DISHCLOTH-HOLDEB. v
Application filed October a, 1920. Serial No. 415.527.
To all'wkom it may concern: v
Be it known that I, ERNEST D. GARDNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Maltby, in the county of Snohom1sh and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dishcloth- Holders, of which the following is a speci-l fication.
, My invention relates to dish cloth holders. An important object of the invention 15 to provide a device of the above mentioned character, which is simple in constructlon, cheap to manufacture, and hlghly convenient in use.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.-
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and 1n which l ke numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
. projecting radially beyond the tube, to en- 7 gage with the end of the handle.
The numeral 9 designates a ferrule or collar, fitted upon the forward end lof the handle, and having a forward flange 10.
- The flange 10 may have apertures 11 for receiving the ends of a holding frame 12, formed of wire or the like. The ends are preferably bent horizontally at 13, and are thereby confined beneath the flange 10, the" ferrule being held upon the handle by fric tional engagement or the like, as is well known. In this manner the holding frame 12 is securely attached to the handle 5.to ex: tend longitudinally in advance of the same,
The holding frame embodies'a forward longitudinal end 13, sides 14, diverging'at 15, and continuing in legs 16. The frame is preferably formed of a single section of wire, bent between its ends, into the desired shape. 7 V
The numeral 17 designates a slidlngholding head having a forward longitudlnally curved surface 18, and grooves 19 at its ends,
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented FQI 22,1921 i for the reception of sides 14: of the frame. The curved surface 18 is provided with a groove 18 adapted to receive the end 13' of the frame when the head 17 is moved forward to a closed position. The head 17 is rigidly secured to a rod 20, slidable within the tube 7. This rod is urged forwardly by a compressible'coil spring 21 within the tube as shown.
A button 22, is apertured to slidably recelve the legs. 16, and has a central opening 23, for the reception of a rod 20, and is clamped to the rod. f p In use, the button 22' may be moved rearwardly, and the head 17 is moved rearwardly, providing a suitable space for the I insertion of the dish cloth. When the but- Y ton is released the spring 21 automatically moves the head 17 toward the end 13', and the dish cloth is moved against displacement.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown anddescribed is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement ofparts may be resorted to without'departing fromthespirit of my invention, or the scope ofthe subjoined claims. f
Having thus described my invention, I
claim:
V 1. A dish cloth holder comprising a handle having a longitudinal bore, a frame connected with theforward end of the handle, va
head sliding within the frame, a rod secured to the head andoperating within the bore,a
spring within the bore, and a button clamped upon the rod'and hav ing apertures slidably receiving portionsof the frame.
2. A dish cloth holder comprising a handle having a longitudinal bore, a sleeve within the bore, a ferrule secured to the forward end of the handle, a-frame formed of a section of wire bentupon itself between its ends and having the ends of the wire engagingthe ferrule, a head slidable within the frame,
a rod carried by thehead and slidable in the Y Y sleeve, a spring within the sleeve to engage the rod, and a button clamped to the rod and having apertures slidably receiving portions of the frame. v l I In testimony whereof,',I have aflixed my signaturein thepresence of two witnesses. ERNEST D. GARDNER.
Witnesses: i I CARROLL R. PETERS, Row. L. CALDWELL.
