'o di autom t may concern Y' Be it known that l, Bvnoiv SHAMMO, av citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, borough of l/la'nhattan,v in
the county of New York and State of New Yorlghave .invented anew and` Improved Garment-Fastener, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. Y
y This invention relates to garment fasteners and has for an obg'ect-to provide an improved construction which may be easily attached to the garment and which in operation will prcperlyholdthe garmentin the desired position while permitting -easy-en gagement or disengagement.
Another object of the invention is to provide a fastener' which is extremely simple in construction and easily and comparatively cheaply manufactured while at the same time retaining features which positively operate to hold the parts 'together when en gaged. Y
A further object, more specilically, is to provide a fastener for garments in which a bridge and interlocking tongue are used and mea-ns associated therewith, giving the tinished appearance of a. rounded button.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure l is a perspective view of a glove showing an embodiment of the invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary sectional view through Fig. l on line 2-2, the same being on an enlarged scale.
Fig is a. sectional view through Fig. 2 on line 3 3. f
Fig. 4 is a plan view of a blank forming the outer surface of one of the fastening members.
Fig. 5 isa bridge carrying plate forming an inner member coa/@ting with the member shown in Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 4 disclosing a hook carrying plate embodying certain features of the invention.
F ig. 7 is a plan view of the blank plate coacting with plate 6to hold the same in place when in use. K
Y Referring to the accompanying drawing, l indicates a glove, to which the fastening members 2 are secured, said fastening members being arranged in two co-acting parts 3 and 4. The fastener members 2 embodying parts 3 and 4 have been shown on glove l merely for the purpose of illustrating how thesemay be used and how they will appear in use, but it will be evident that the fastening features could be used in connection with a large number off other garments without departing fromthe spirit of the invention. The part 3 is composed of what may be termed a fastening plate 5 and aV bridge plate 6. The` fastening plate '5 is' preferably cupped or lbowed outwardly, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. so as to give an ornamental appearance. lf desired, it could be embossed, engraved or otherwise ornamented. Extending from the bowed or cupped portion of the plate 5 are a. plurality of spurs 7 three spurs being shown in the drawing, though greater or even less number could be used if desired. These spurs are forced through the material of glove l or the material of any other garment to which they may be secured and are then bent over so as to firmly clamp the bridge pla-te 6 against the garment. The bridge plate 6` is shown as a disk and provided with a pressed out central section 8 which presents a. bridge structure to interlock with the tongue 9 on the tongue plate i0. rlhis tongue plate is shown as being formed with three spurs ll, vthough a different number could be used without departing from the spirit of the invention, .said spurs being passed through part of the glove l and bent over against the retaining plate l2 so as to firmly clamp the parts in position and at the same `time prevent the spurs ll from tearing the garment. It will be noted that the parts are held in position by spurs or projections on certain of the plates, but these spurs do .not directly pinch against the material of the glove but against metal members. When arranging the parts on the glove or other garment, the arrangement may be varied to accommodate different shapes of garmentcr the desires of the person applying the fastener. In Fig. 1, the plates 6 are shown arranged so that the bridges S will extend parallel with the front opening of the glove, while the plates l0 are arranged so that the tongues9 will extend at right angles to the front opening of the glove whereby they may frequently interlock with the bridges 8; also, the tongue 9 is preferably bent so as to produce a resilient spring action or resistance in entering the bridge 8 and being removed therefrom, so that a slight pull thereon will not produce any disengaging action, even if in the right ranged on a second part of the garment prodirection. It Will be understood that the exposed metal parts may be -ornamented by coloring or otherwise if desired, Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What l claim is:
l. A garment fastener of the characterV described comprising a bowed plate having clamping spurs, a bridge plate held in space by said spurs, and means interlocking bridge plate completing the fastening structure.
2. In a fastener of the character described, a bridge plate, a hooked plate formed With members'interlocking the bridge plate, and means for clamping said plates togarment, said means including facing plates provided with spurs adapted to be forced through the article 'and overlap said plates. i '3. A garment fastener holding tvvo parts of the garment together, comprising a bridge plate, means for connecting said bridge plate to one part of the garment, said means including a bowed body for giving a pleasing appearance, and a plurality of spurs adapted torrbe forced through the garment and bent over the bridge plate, and means arvided with a tongue interlocking the Vsaid bridge plate. 4f. A fastener of the character Vdescribed for holding two parts of the garment to- 3 gether comprising a bridge plate, means for clamping same to one part of said garment, a hooked plate formed With spurs adapted to extend through the other part of the garment forvclamping the hooked plate in posi- 3 tion, anda protecting and bracing plate coacting with said hooked said spurs. a Y Y 5. In a fastener for garment, a disk formed with aV pressed out central section 4 plate overlapped by for forming a bridge, a clamping plate BYRON A. sHAMMo.l
