This invention relates to buildiiig structures.
This invention has utiiity when incorporated in sectional or portable wooftlen buildings; haring special advantages in teas tures o' root assembly and construction.
Referring to the drawings .ligure 1 is a perspective view oi? a strucn ture embodying' the invention, being1 def signedas a garage; l
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view ot a side corner and its adjacent front battlement unit from the inside;
Fig. 3 is an elevation from the inner side of a front battlement unit;
Fig. i is a vertical section oi" the structure of Fig. 1;
Fig. 5 is a section ot the front battlement unit on line V.V Fig. 2;
lig. 6 is an enlarged detail view sliowing the assembly facilitating :feature oit :daring bolt hole; and
Fig. is a bottom section. j
The building herein disclosed embodies side or vertical sections 1, 2, and front sections 3 in the instance ci garage structures, carrying doors 4. These vertical sections 1., 2, 8, assemble to provide in a common plane the top plates 5 and 6. Battlement units for the front and two sides are provided to rest upon these top sills of the sides and provide exterior decoration and also on the one side a support for the inclined roof downward toward Vthe fourth or open side at the rear.
The front battlement unit comprises the vertical board 7 shown as a single broad board having a top trimming member or board 8 overhanging more on the outer side than on the inside. Beneath the outer over hang oit this board trimming member 8 there is disposed a cornice trimming including a strip 10 with a molding 11 which not only contributes decorative features to the enter side of the bsttlement unit but acts as a reinforcement or stii'ening means plan view of a roof Specification of Letters Patent. Pgljtnted JalL 25, 1921.
Application filed May 1t, 1919.
sei-iai No. 298,109.
eXti-mding longitudinally of the board 7. it. base trimming member 12 projects as a slight overhang trom the under side of the board "i". and inrthor serves as a protection Jfor the siding` or sheetingoic the side members 8 and the doors i1- .ds a decorative stiti'ening just short of the ends oi' this front battlement unit, bracket members 13 at the ends of the cornice members 10 and 1l, iit between the top trimmingl member 8 and the base trimming member 12. 'lf here is accordingly produced a ifiecorative feature on the outer side oi this cornice with a minimum of material, 1which material has 4structural utility in stitlfening this battlement i unit. Adjacent the base trimming member 12,- and on the inner side ot the board 7 there is provided the base member 1st iirmly connected to the board 7 and coasting' for stiening the unit upon the opposite side of' the board 7 from the cornice members 1G and 11. Roof supporting means are provided as mounted on the inner side oit the board 7 and resting upon the base lll, which supporting means comprise tlie sustaining blocks 15 and the taller clamping bloclrs 16. Upon the sustaining blocks 15 may rest the inclined root sustaining joists 17 clamped by bolts 18 to the member 16.` These rooi"` sustaining members 17 may have `bolted thereto cleats 19 on the under side of the boards 2O of the roof section units. These cleats 19 ar assembled to the oists 17 by bolts 18.
The side battlement unit board `21 have exterior iinisii means similar to the exterior iinish means of the front `battlement board 7. However, on the inner side, these side battlement units have, diagonally extending7 a roof sustaining joist 22 parallel to the intermediate joists 17 trom the front battlement unit. Theseidiagonally extending; joists permanently attached to the boards 21 provide transverse and longitudinal. stiifening for the side battlement units and the cleats 19 on the roo-l' sections may be bolted to this battlement carrying1 joist 22 as they are bolted to the in termediate joists 17 through the action of the bolts 18. Accordingly, these battlement units have the single thickness boards 7, 21, as root carrying structures with the decs orative external stiffening and the roof car ryins internal means also coacting as stiffening. However, this roof and these decorative elements are apart from and all above the building sides. The roof is amply strong for normal usage and permits o v ready erection of sectional buildings in an economical manner from unit bases. For instance, the units may be placed laterally of each other for building up into a structure of more extended capacity, say for garages to care for several machines, in which instance the battlement between the units are omitted.
To facilitate the assembly of the members of the sections together for anchoring by the bolts 18, holes 23 may iare outward on their sides toward each other so that the entering bolt may be directed or guided into bringing the parts'into proper assembled lation. With the battlement units mounted on the sides and bolted together at the corner, there is full stiti'ening in anchoring such units in position by the corner boards 24 extending from the corners ot the side upward past the top plates of the sides and along the protruding portions the means 7, 2l, between the brackets 13 up to the under side of the top trimming member S.
' This completes the mounting and trimming` of the roof. rllhe side sections l, 2, may have inish boards 25 covering the joints therebetween. 'llhere may be an additional intermediate transverse stiilening member or Vpurlin 26 from the side plates 5 to support the joists 17. Sheet rooting material 2T be placed in position over the boards Q0 ot' the sectional roof.
llhat is claimed and it is desired to secure by United States Letters Patent is l. A battlement trimming for a root enibodying exterior `finish board means, root carrying means mounted on and carried by one side of the board means, and a base snpporting the board means as a unit with its roof carrying means.
2. A battlement trimming for an inclined roof embodying an exterior finish board and roof carrying means mounted diagonally along and carried by one side of the board.
3. A battlement trimming for an inclined roof embodying front board means from which the inclined roof may extend downnf'ardly, a pair of parallel side board means one extending 'from each end of the front board means, said board means each having a base, which bases are assembled to approximate a plane below the incline of' the roof, and an inclined roof extending "rom the front board means and carried by the parallel side board means.
e'. il battlement trimming unit ior a root comprising a board facing approximating the battlement height, a top trimming board for the facing, cornice trimn'iing on tue outside of the means under the Yop trinnning: board longitudinally stili'ening the board, a base trimming member for lic board iaci. '5. laterally of' the base and trimming member an inwardly projecting carryin hase, and acjacent the ends i the board .fing rior transversely extending decorative rtitfeninrr means for the board i'acingr.
5. battlcmcnt trimming unit l'or a rooi comprising a board liafng :mproXiniaiingr the battlement height, a top trimmingboard for the Jfacing, cornice trimming on the out side of the facing under the top trimming board longitudinally stiiiienin 'the board, a base trimming member for 'the board fac ing, laterally of the base and trimming mein ber an inwardly projecting ca""1ng base, adjacent the ends of' the board lacing ente rior transversely extending decorative stillening means 'lor the board facing, and interioi` roof carrying transverse :stii'l'ening means for the board facing.
(i. A building having a pair or roof carrying plates extending from a corner, a pair ci" liattlement roof carrying trimming units extending from the corner and mounted on the plat-cs, and a corner trimming .tor the building extending up from below the plates` to provide a corner trimming for the battlement units.
ln Witness whereof wc ailix our signaA tures. l
