NECKTIE AND SECURING MEANS THEREFOR.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD Brass, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Vineland, in the county of Cumberland and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Necktie and Securing Means 'Ihere'tor, of which the following is a descri tion. L

it y invention relates to a necktie means on which the knot of the necktie is formed, said means embodying the elements respectively for engaging the collar button and for entrance beneath the front of the collar.

The general object of my invention is to provide a necktie and attaching means of the indicated character improved in various particulars with respect to durability and with regard to the members provided for engaging the collar button and the elements associated therewith.

Reference is to be had to the accompany ing drawing forming a part of this specification, it being understood that the draw ings are merely illustrative of one example of the invention.

Figure 1 is a rear elevation of a necktie and attaching means embodying my invention;

In carrying out my invention in accordance with the illustrated example, a length of wire is bent to produce lateral wings 10 adapted to be entered beneath a turndown collar, said wings at the base thereof having the wire coiled about the same at each side of the center as indicated at 11. My inc-- proved device includes spaced depending elements 12 adapted to engage the shank of the collar button indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 3 and presenting opposite bends 13 where said clamp elements engage the button shank. At the lower ends oi the clamp members 12 the wire is return bent in an up ward direction in the front of said members to provide two upstanding members 14 in closer relation than said clamping members and said front members are held firmly in close relation near their lower ends by a binding wire 15. The arrangement is such that the firmly held rront members 145 integral with the clamp members 12 reinforce and strengthen the latter and impart later ally resiliency thereto for the firm gripping of the button shank. Central of the device and extending above the bases of the wings 10 the wire is formed into a double loop 16 which adds to the strength of the device and is disposed in the knot of the tie adjacent to the top thereof to aid in preserving the form of the knot.

From the inner end of a coil 11 the wire is looped as at 18 over the top of the wing 10 at the inner end of the latter and is carried downwardly to form one depending trout member 14 at the-lower end of which the wire is return bent in an upward direction to formthe adjacent rear clamp member 12, the upper end ad which passes through said loop 18 and is bent to form one 01'. the loops 16 from which the wire is carried outwardly and returned to form wing 10, first mentioned. From said wing 10 the wire extends horizontally across the center and is formed into the other wing 10 from the returned portion of which the wire forms the second of the double loops 16 and is carried downwardly to form the second rear (ilamp member 12 and then returned upwardly in the form of the second front member 1 1-, and then 18, that is to say, about the last-mentioned members 12 and 14: and about the secondmentioned wing 10 at the base or inner end of the latter from which the wire is twisted into the second coil 11, about the said inner end of the second wing.

The necktie A is formed into a knot at which in practice is a tour-in-hand knot and tabs a extend from said knot at the top at each side, said tabs, before being secured, extending upwardly as indicated in dotted lines, Fig. 1. The tabs are carried rear wardly to the back of the knot over the horiaontal inner ends 01'? the wings 10 and their coils 11 and sewed to the back of the knot. The tabs a lie at the sides of the depending elements 12 and 1d. The lower ends of the elements 12, 14: diverge as at 19 to guide the collar button into place between the clamp members 12 and with the binder ring 15 serve to cause flexional stresses in the wire formed into the second coil at said flaring portions when the clamp thereof and holding the myself strictly to the mechanical details hereln'illustrated, since manifestly the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

1. An attaching means for neckties, said wire and presenting a central portion" and sideavings, the wire at said central portion being bent to form spaced button-clamping members below the wings,' a nd upwardly extending members integral' with said clamping members at the lower end and disposed in front of the latter; together with a binder wound about the said front members near the lower ends same against separation while permitting relative turning movement thereof in response to spreading of'the' clamping members in clamping or nnclamping the collar button. 7

2. As a new article of manufacture, a wire attaching means for neckties presenting a central portion and lateral wings extending from said central portion near the top and adapted to be entered beneath a collar, said central portion below said wings presenting rear clamping members spaced to'accommodate the shank of a collar button and frontmembers integral with the lower ends of said clamp members and extending upwardly therefrom to said wings, said front members lying in closer relation than the clamp'members, and a binder about ends to said front members near the lower hold the same against separation and cause a spreading action of the clamping members to flexionally stress the wire at the lower ends of said clamp members and front members.

As a new article of manufacture, a wire attaching "means for neckties presenting a central; portion and lateral wings extending from said central portion near the top and adapted to be entered beneath a collar, said central portion below said wings presenting rear clamping members spaced to accommodate the shank of a collar button and front members integral with the lower ends of said clamp members and extending upwardly therefrom to said wings, said front members lying in. closer relation than the clamp members, and being integral at their lower ends with the latter, said lower ends of both the clamp members and said front members diverging; together with means holding said front members adjacent to their divergent lower ends against separation.

4. A necktie and attaching means therefor, said means including a central depending portion presenting spaced clamping members adapted to engage a collar button, and wings extending laterally from said central portion near the top thereof, said necktie having a, knot in front of the said attaching means and presenting tabs extending from said knot at the top to the rear of the attaching means at the inner ends of the wings, said tabs being secured to the back of the knot below said wings.

5. A necktie and attaching means therefor, said means including late al wings adapted to be entered beneath a collar, and a central portion extending below said wings and presenting clamp members adapted to engage a collar button, said wings havin their inner ends adjacent to said centra portion extending substantially in a horizontal plane; together with a necktie having a knot formed about said central portion and said horizontal portions of the wings and rising above the latter, and tabs extending rearwardly from said knot over said horizontal portions to the rear of the latter and secured to the back of the knot.
