Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 25, 1921.
Application filed Getooer 25, 1920. Serial No. 419,218.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK F. BURTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mount Carmel, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sling- Swivels and Bands for Firearmsyancl I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact clescription of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent, in
Figure 1, a broken view in side elevation of the barrel and stock of a firearm provided with my improved sling-swivel and band.
Fig. 2, a reverse plan view thereof.
Fig. 3, a view thereof in transverse section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. i, a detached perspective view of the band.
Fig. 5, a detached view in elevation of the hardened swivel.
My invention relates to an improved slingswivel and band for firearms, the object being to produce a cheap and durable fixture of the type described.
With these ends in view, my invention consists in a sling-swivel and band having certain details of construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In carrying out my invention as herein shown, I produce a strap-like one-piece band 6 having oppositely-located shoulders 7 adapting it to conform to and clasp the barrel 8 and forestock 9 of a firearm. The ends of the band 6 are bent downwardly parallel with each other to form two lugs 10, each perforated as at 11 for the reception of two trunnions 12 located in line and facing each other, and formed at the ends of a substantially rigid oblong swivel 13 which is readily combined with the band by compressing the same prior to its application to the barrel and stock so as to cause its perforated lugs 10 to spring over the trunnions of the swivel 13. hen the band and swivel as thus combined are slipped over the barrel and stock, the band is thereafter prevented from springing and the rigidity of the swivel prevents it from spreading. I thus secure an extremely simple and eifective construction without the use of rivets or bolts. When applied, the band is positioned by means of a pin 1.4; extending through the stock adjacent to the forward edge of the band and by means of pins 15 entering the stock at points adjacent to the rear edge of the band.
I claim:
A. sling-swivel and band for firearms, comprising a band adapted to fit over the barrel and forestock of a firearm and formed with depending perforated lugs, and a sub stantially rigid swivel formed with trunnions adapted to engage with the lugs of the band and preventing the expansion of the band when the same is installed upon the gun-barrel and stock.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification inthe presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANK F. BURTON.
