Be it knownthat I, TVILLARI) Horcnaun, a citizen of the United States of America, residin at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and tate of Michigan, have invented cer tain new and useful Improvements in Gas- Range Tops, of which'the following-is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

The invention relates to gas stoves of the open top type and refers particularly to closed tops for detachably fitting the open tops. The invention has for its obyect the novel arrangements and comblnation of parts as more fully hereinafter set forth.

It has been the usual practice heretofore to apply closed tops to open top stoves with the upper surfaces of the closed tops parallel to the upper surfaces of the stoves and in a horizontal plane. There being no flue for inducing a draft to carry away the combust on frointhe burners. proper combustion did not take place at theburners so that objectionable odors occurred. With my invention draft is induced to carry the combustion gases away from the burners so that the gases being burned will have proper com-- hustion. l

Each closed top 3 is positioned upon the open top 1 by means of the adjustable stops l which have depending flanges adapted for engagement withthe edges of the opening in the open top. plate comprising the parallel side portions 8 and the semi-circular portion 9 at the front of the front opening 5 and connecting the forward ends of the parallel portions 8, these parallel portions 8 being at the opposite sides of the apertures 5.

For the purpose of inducing a draft to carry the combustion gases away from the burners the top plate 3 is provided with side flanges 10 which rest upon the open top 1 of the stove and are of greater depth at the rear of the top plate than at its front. This arrangement of side flanges inclines the surface of the top plate upwardly from front to rear which consequently assists the combustion gases in moving away from the burners 2. 11 is a front depending flange ex tending between the forward ends of the depending side flanges 10. 12 are elongated apertures in the rear surface of the. top plate 3 for permitting of the more ready removal of the combustion gases and 13 are suitable reinforcements bridging these elongated apertures and strengthening the rear end of the top plate.

From the above description it will be readily seen that the upward inclination of the top surface of the closed top induces a draft of the combustion gases away from the burners and at the same time the closed top is adapted to effect its normal functions of supporting utensils above. the burners without danger of tipping of the utensils.

What I claim as my invention is:

1. The combination with a gas stove having an open top, of a plane-surfaced closed top reniovably mounted on said open top and provided with depending side flanges resting on said open top, the depth of said side flanges being greater at the rear than at the front.

2. The combination with a gas stove having an open top, of a plane-surfaced closed top removably mounted on said open top and provided with depending front and side flanges restingon said opentop, the depth of said side flanges being greater at the rear than at the front, whereby said closed top inclines upwardly from the front to the rear and relative to said open top.
