' INDICATOR FOR SPRING-MOTORS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1,.THOMAS J. MASSE, a
7 subject of the King of Great Britain, re
siding at'Edmonton, Province of Alberta, Canada, have inventejd certain new and useful Improvements in Indicators for Spring- Motors; and I'do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip tion of the invention, such 'as will enable others skilled in the-art to which it appertains to make and use the same. I
The present invention has relationto indicators for spring motors and more pal ticularly gramophone motors and the principal object resides in the provision of means for indicating when the motor should be wound.
With the above and other objects in view which will, hereinafter appear as the de scription continues, the invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and formation of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings has been shown a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation 'is necessarily made to the precise structural details herein exhibited, but
the right is hereby reserved to any changes,
alterations or modifications to which recourses may be had that come within the scope of the claim without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing the efficiency of the same. 1 7
Referring now more particularly tothe accompanying drawings wherein like and corresponding parts are designated by similar reference characters throughout the several views, v
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a grainophone illustrating the indicating disk.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the motor and driving elements. i I
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same; and, Fig. 4 is a detail section of the drive shaft. In the gramophone art trouble has been experienced due to the spring motors running down while records are being played, resulting in the mutilation of the records and more or less inconvenience.
With the view of obviating this defect, I have provided an attachment which is adapted for connection to any of the disk type of phonograph and it comprises an in- Speci fication of Letters Patent. Application filed october 3, 1919.

tlons.
' In the drawings the numeral 1 designates the driving motor, which is suitably supported on'the lower surface 2 of the record board 3. The driving motor is of the usual spring type and has gears 4 and 5 at the opposite ends and a gear 6 attached to the crank 7 is in mesh with gear 5 whereby the motor is wound.
dicator, driving motor and driving connec- Motion'for'driving the gramophone is im- I parted to the motor shaft 8, which carries the large gear 9 which engages a worm 10 on the drive shaft 11. The motor shaft 8 likewise carries a pinion 12 which meshes with the cog wheel being a part of the driving mechanism ofwhich the present indicator has no place.
An indicator plate 13 is mounted on the record board 3 and bears suitable indicating and F, the same indicating at Fthat the motor is wound up, I; when half of the power has been expended and 0, when the motor has run down. An indicator hand 30 is pivotally mounted on a pin shaft 15 on plate 13 and at its lower end has link connection 14 with a rod 16. The opposite endof rod 16 is attached to a bar 17 pivotally mounted in the bracket 18, secured by screws to the lower surface 2 of the record board 3. i
The lower end of bar 17 is formed with a spherical portion or knob 19 which pro'ects within the groove 20 of a pulley 21. his pulley 21 is keyed to a drive shaft 22 the restricted ends 23 of which have hearings inthe standards 24 secured by screws25 to the lower surface of record board 3.
Adjacent one end, shaft 22 has a screw threaded portion 24 which carries a gear 25, thelatter meshing with the motor gear 5, Gear 25 is held against lateral movement by the pinch bracket 26 secured to the lower surface of record board 3.
Adjacent the opposite end, the shaft 22 has a square portion 27 on which is loosely mounted a gear 28, which latter meshes with the motor gear e. A pinch bracket 29 is secured to the lower surface of the record board 3 and prevents the lateral movement of gear 28, while shaft 22 is capable of rectilinear movement in both directions.
It will thus be seen that when the motor is wound up by operating the crank 7 the gear 5 will cause gear 25 to revolve, thereby pulley 20 will likewise travel ing in the turning of bar 17. Rod 16 is resultan'tly actuated, as is likewise link 14- causing the shaft with 1t, resulthand 30.
Having thus fully described my 'invention,
what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
The combination with a phonograph having a top plate and a motor connected therewith, gears mounted upon the opposite ends of said motor, bearings -mounted upon the 22 to travel tothe left and I It will thus be} seen that the informaltion relative to condition of the motor will be obtained by glancing at the indicator cover of said ahono ia )h a in shaft slido 7 P l .ably mounted in said bearlngs, movable. gears carried by, the pin shaft, one of said gears having threaded engagement therewith for sliding the pin shaft in the bearings upon the rotation thereof, brackets secured to the phonograph and being forked to engage opposite sidesof the gears for preventing undesired movement thereof, a bracket secured within the phonograph, a bell crank lever mounted in. said bracket, 2. grooved pulley keyed to the pin shaft in which one end of the bell cran'klever rests,an indicator secured to the phonograph, and a rod connecting the bell orankHlever-with the indicator, substantially as and for the purposes set'forth. 5 1
In witness whereof I havev hereunto set my hand. 7
" THOMAS J. 'MASSE.
