MURRAY, citizens of the United States. residing at Brooklyn, in the county of IIin'gs and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvementin Methods of hlaking Metal Housings for Transmission-Gears, of \Villt'll the following is a sperifieation.
In F. S. Letters Patent No, 1,329,135 granted to us January 27. 1920, we have set forth a method of making a metal housing for transmission gear, the said housing eon sisting of two tubular end portions and vintegral therewith a circular middle portion of greater diameter than. said tubular portions, the said middle portion having in its opposite "walls circular openings, whieh con sists' in forming from a metal blank a longitudinal half section of said housing eonsisting of two semi-tubular end portions and integral therewith a middle portion of arched form, the opening in said areh be ing semiwirI-ular, placing a seeond and similar hali section with the straight edges of the semi-tubular portions in regi. ring eontart with the straight edges of said firstnamed section. and electrically welding together simultaneously the pairs of eontae"- ing edge surfaces of said semi-tubular portions.
Our present 'invention is a method of produeing said object by eleetrieal welding, in which longitudinal half sections are formed, each half section having its middle portion of annular form, so that the welded joint between the half tubular straight sections is continued around the annular middle sec tion.
