INVENTOR v ABMQZ BY 7 v wrmss; ATI'ORNEY UNITED STATES JOSEPH F. DUNCAN, OF ETOWAH, TENNESSEE.
SEESAW.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 21, 1920.
Application filed March 26, 1920. Serial No. 389,059.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Josnrrr F. DUNCAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Etowah, in the county of McMinn and State of Tennessee, have invented new and useful Improvements in Seesaws, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a see-saw de vice and one of the objects of the invention is to provide means whereby the rocking member may be adjusted vertically on its support and also adjusted longitudinally on said support.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide a foot support on the rocking member and also a support for engagement by the hands.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan View.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view through the suport. p Fig. 1 is a perspective view of one of the upright pieces which carries the handle and foot bars.
F 5 is an end view of the rocking lever and its attached parts.
In these views 1 indicates the upright supporting member which consists of the base 2 and the pair of uprights 3. The base con sists of a pair of pieces at crossing each other and each provided with a slot for receiving a portion of the other piece. The lower ends of the uprights are also provided with slots for receiving one of the cross pieces andthe uprights are bolted to the cross pieces by the bolts 5. It will be seen that one of the cross pieces is located between the uprights so that these uprights are spaced apart and the rocking member 6 is located in this space. The uprights are provided with a plurality of holes 7, any pair of which receiving the bolt 8 WlllCl'l supports the rocking member. The lower edge of this member is provided with the spaced recesses 9 for engaging the bolt. In this way the rocking member may be adjusted longitudinally to permit a person of light weight to occupy the device with a person of heavier weight. The rocking member can also be adjusted vertically by placing the bolt 8 in the dif ferent holes in the uprights.
A seat 10 is secured to the upper edge of the rocking member, at each end thereof, and this seat is strengthened by an end piece 11 which is secured to each end of the rocking member and to the end edge of the bottom of the seat.
Upright pieces 12 are secured to the rocking member adjacent each seat and a handle bar 13 is passed through the upper ends of each pair of these pieces and a foot rest bar 14. is passed through their lower ends so as to provide a foot rest and a hand hold for the person occupying each seat. I prefor to extend the pieces carrying the foot and hand rests a suflicient distance below the rocking member so that they will engage the ground and thus prevent the end of the said member from striking the ground. I may also place a reinforcing strap 15 of metal on the upper edge of the rocking member.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
lVhat I claim is A see saw comprising an upright supporting frame consisting of a pair of uprights and a pair of cross pieces connected together, and to the uprights, one of said cross pieces spacing the uprights apart, a plurality of holes arranged in a vertical line in said uprights, a bolt for engaging any pair of said holes, a rocking member having a plurality of spaced recesses in its lower edge for receiving the bolt, seats secured to the ends of the rocking member and a foot rest and hand hold carried by the rocking member adjacent each seat.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
JOSEPH F. DUNCAN.
