M. E. BUDGE. HYGIENIC COVER FOR SANITARY AND OTHER VESSELS APPLICATION FILED DEC.26, 1917- V Patented Dec. 21,1920.
FIG. 6-
07.15 Budge /n renfon Hf/"o W may I PATENT OFFICE.
MARY ELIZABETH BUDGE, 0F NEWTON, AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND.
HYGIENIO COVER FOR SANITARY AND OTHER VESSELS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 21, 1920.
Application filed December 26, 1917. Serial No. 208,795.
To all 10 hom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY ELIZABETH BUDGE, a citizen of the Dominion of New Zealand, and residing at 18 East street, Newton, Auckland, in the Provincial District of Auckland, in the Dominion of New Zealand, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hygienic Covers for Sanitary and other Vessels, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a cover for sanitary vessels such as slop-pails, bedpans and other vessels used in hospitals, private houses and elsewhere.
The invention consists of a cover made of a double thickness of canvas or the like, so that a pocket is formed wherein disinfectant is stored.
The details for applying the invention to various vessels are set out in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1, is a sectional elevation, and
Fig. 2, is a plan of a slop-pail embodying the invention,
Fig. 3, is a sectional elevation, and
Fig. 4, a plan of a bedpan embodying the invention, and
Fig. 5, is a sectional elevation, and
Fig. 6, is a rear elevation of a bedpan showing a modification of the invention, and
Fig. 7, is a perspective view of a chamber embodying the invention.
The shape of the cover and means for fastening the same vary to suit the vessel to be covered.
Referring more particularly to Figs. 1 and 2 wherein the cover is shown applied to a slop-pail, two semicircular parts 1 and 2 extend over the top of the slop-pail 3. Each part 1 and 2 is made of a double thickness of canvas forming pockets 4 and 5, wherein any suitable disinfectant is stored. Rods 6 and 7 are fastened to the folds of the parts 1 and 2 respectively, which parts are fastened together by a loop or stra 8. The ends of the rods rest upon the mm of the slop-pail 3 and support the parts 1 and 2.
The curved edges 9 and 10 of the cover are stiffened by curved rods 11 and 12 respectively. The parts 1 and 2 are held taut by the rods 6, 7, 11 and 12 and prevented from sagging with the weight. of the disinfectant contained in the pockets 4 and 5. On the middle part of the curved edges 9 and 10 fastenings consisting of tapes 13 and 14 are provided respectively for fastening the said parts 1 and 2 to the ears 15 of the slop-pail, and these said fastenings are used for suspending the cover when not in use, upon a wall or elsewhere.
The cover is adapted for use upon a bedpan 16 as shown in Figs. 3 and 4 by providing a pocket 17 extending over the body of the bedpan and with loops 18 at its open end for suspending the cover when not in use, and by providing another pocket 19 to fit upon the toe 20 of the bedpan.
The cover as shown in Figs. 5 and 6 has a pocket 21 extending over the bedpan 22, a
fringe 23 fitting around front of the bedpan and having a gap 24 to receive the handle 24*, and tapes 25 for fastening the fringe below the handle 24.
The cover is adapted for use upon a chamber 26 as shown in Fig. 7 by providing apocket 27 extending over the top of the chamber, the said pocket having an opening 28 for the introduction of a disinfectant. A fringe 29 has a vertical gap 30 at the back so that the cover can be readily slipped upon the chamber and secured by a fastener consisting of tapes 31 below the handle 32.
What I do claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is A cover comprising a pocket containing a disinfectantand adapted to cover a bed pan, and a pocket fitting upon one end of the bedpan, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
MARY ELIZABETH BUDGE.

D. M. CoNNELL, D. RAPSON.
