2 SHEETS-SHEET 2- M Johnson WITNESS: ATTORNEY UNITED STATES M D'U'VAL JOHNSON, OF LAKE VILLAGE, ARKANSAS.
DESK-PAD.
Application filed March 5,
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, M DUVAL JoriNsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lake Village, in the county of Chicot and State of Arkansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Desk-Pads, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in desk pads, wherein use ismade of a plurality of super-imposed members independently movable upon the base of the pad, and designed to accommodate on both sides, sheets containing statistical matters, of any kind, price lists, discount tables, maps, blue prints or any other indi'cia which may or may not be used in conjunction with a calculating or reference device at one end of the pad.
In carrying out the invention, each of said members is preferably hinged upon the pad to be lifted from one end and the calculating, or reference device, may be so positioned as to form a support against which said member or members rest when elevated.
The nature and advantages of the inven tion will be better understood when the following detail description is taken in con.- nection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawings forming part of this specification, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein Figure 1 is a plan View on an enlarged scale of the pad constructed im accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is an edge elevation looking from the side of the pad.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged transverse sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. L is a fragmentary perspective view of one of the hinged members showing the indicia sheet arranged on oppos1te sides thereof.
5 is a sectional view through the pad showing one of the members supported by the card holders and calculating device in an elevated position.
Referring to the drawings in detail, 10 indicates the base of the pad which is preferably constructed of light sheet metal or heavy cloth or card board suitably covered and trimmed with cloth and leather around Fig.

the edges thereof. A plurality of superimposed members each being identical in construction is arranged upon the base 10 and hingedly mounted thereon to be lifted from one end for the purpose to be herein- "after described.
wall 14: and a rearwardly inclined frontwall 15. The front wall adjacent each end is formed to provide pockets for the re-.
ception of reference cards of any suitable character, the walls of the pockets may be covered with glass, celluloid or other suitable transparent material 16. The front wall 15 of the calculating device, between the pockets at each end thereof, is provided with indicia, such as numerals, graduations and the like for the purpose of calculating interests, prices, discounts, and the like. It may vary for specific purposes, but its general application is contemplated and it is accordingly constructed for general use. 7
Each of the members 11, is provided at both sides thereof with corner holders 17 of the usual construction to receive the corners of papers, or the like, interposed between these holders and the members 11. Upon each side of the respective members is arsheet of paper or cardboard of the required size indicated at 18. Each of these sheets 18 has printed, pasted, or otherwise secured on the facing sides thereof statistical matter of any kind, prices, rates of interest, maps, blue prints, or any other suitable reference matter which may or may not be used in conjunction with the calculating device hereinabove referred to. Either side of the sheet 18 may be arranged upon members 11 to be presented for use. However each side of each of the members 11 is provided with one of the sheets 18, and affords the user convenient reference to all matters pertaining to his'business.
It will be noted that the reference card Nil and calculating device is so disposed With respect to the hinged members 11, that When the latter are elevated the reference card and calculating device affords a rest for said members, supporting the latter inth'e manner illustrated in Fig. 5. Any of the members can be conveniently elevated in this manner, for inspection from either side.
While it is believed that from the foregoing description, the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to any details shown, and that such changes maybe resorted to when desired as fall Within the scope of what is claimed.
Having thus described my invention What I claim is:
A desk pad of the class described comprising a sheet metal base, cloth trimmings around the edges thereof, a plurality of super-imposed members being hingedly mounted upon said base, a 'card reference device provided at one end of said base, a flange formed at one end of said base to provide a support for said card reference device, a vertical :rear Wall,'a rearwardly inclined front Wall comprising said card reference device, pockets being provided adjacent each end ofzsaid front Wall for the reception of reference cards, said pockets being covered with any transparent material, a sheet of paper being provided at eachside of said superimposed members for statistical matter.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
M .DUVAL JOHNSON.
