' Application 'med November To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, Bm'rnrcn N. KARL and @Harnais BENJAMIN CURTIS, both citizene of the United States, and residents of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Illumi# netted-Signal Indicators; and we do hereby declarethat the following is a and exact description thereof.
The resent invention relates to new and useul'lmprovements in signal devices and is more particularly directed to the pro: vision of an illuminated signal ada ted to be used in connection with automo iles or other vehicles :to indicate the driverfs irlio t e It is the object of the present invention to provide such a device which is ada ted to be grasped bythe operator and use as an indicator or pointer, and which is further adapted to include a conventional tubular flash light which forms the'handle of the device andwhich servesto provide the-necessary illumination. 7
A further object resides in the provision may be readily attachedeto or itached 4from a conventional W'ith the above and other objects andy advantages in'view, the invention Vresides more particularly in the novel combination, arrangement 'and formation of parts more particularly hereinafter described and particularly ,Y pointed. out in the appended claims. y ln the drawings, Figure l is a vertical fragmentary sectional view through the indicator device showing a conventional flash light associated therewith and forming a.'
part thereof.
Fig. 2`'is an edge member.
YReferring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, 5 designates a tubular' flash light member of Aonmntional type, having t e usual bead 6 formed at its end adjacent the lamp bulb. Thebulb as View of the indicator shown 1s housed withinthe end of the iight member and, owing to the fact that the shell of this light nfember is non-transparent, the ra s of light are directed in alinexnent with said light member which is, in eiect, a.

handle; Furthermore, by housing thelamp bulb in this manner it is thoroughly protested .and complies with insurance vregulations which would prevent the use o la device of this character wherein, as is proposed, a translucentcelluloid bod form'is attached thereto, the details of w ich body are more. articularly described.
The in icator member 7 which is assosubstantially the form of an extended hand, the` member'being formed in an desired manner, of celluloid or other suita 1e translucent material whereby light is diffused l therefrom. For attachment to the Hash light, the
'lar ed at 8 in tubular shape to receive the wrist portion of the member is enen of the ash light and the end portion of thev tube is provided with open slots 9 whereby a retainin Amay be passed above the end of t e tube to contract said end about the ash tube and` `inwardly of the bead 6 so that the device maiyhbe secured in place. .y is indicator device is operated b grailsping the usual handle end of the das i t d igrcction is necessary to effect the desired longitudinal signal.y
The band 10 is shown .simply asa rubber band, but it will be appreciated` that any desired clasp may be provided for the end of the tube 8 or that any other means may be 'provided for seuring the indicator on the Hash tube.
Although the resent device has been particularly described for use in impartin automobile, signals, it is apparent that 1t may well be used in any simllar connection wherein an `illuminatedsignal is desired.
claim:
1. The combination with a portable electric light device comprising a bulb, a reflector therefor and a hand grip,'of a signaling the same illuminable of the axis of said device.
2. A signal attachment for standard portable flash-lights having the usual casing, said attachment comprisin a translucent to said device and having opposed faces disposed onopposite sides the beam of light projected by adapted to telescope over the band 10 and pointing the device 1n whichever object having means for attaching flattened body having an e arged o nend-y mi. light ca sng, and means for securing said tra-ns` In testimony that, we claim the foregoing lucent body to the lamp end of the flash we have hereunto set our hands at Mii light casing, the said translcent body being waukee, in the county ofk Milwaukee and JB,
held in axial alinement with the Casin State ofjVisconsin.
whereby the former will be inthe path, an f i receive the full effects of light projecting BEATRICE N. KARL. from the Hash Qight. C. BENJAMIN CURTS.
