a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Hose-Supporters, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to hose supporters, such as shown and described in the Letters Patent of the United States, No. 1,197,368, granted to me September 5, 1916, and No. 1,216,991, granted to me February 20, 1917. The object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved hose supporter of simple construction and larranged to securely grip and hold the hose and to insure perfect freedom of the wearers body and limbs without producing undue strain on the hose. Another object is to permit the user to quickly and permanently engage the supporter with the hose or to detachy it therefrom.`
Vith these and other objects in view, the
invention consists of certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters o'f reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a front perspective view of the hose supporter as applied;

Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross section of the same on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a. face view of the hose supporter clasp and a portion of the supporting band.
A corset 10 or other garment is provided with hose supporters, one for each hose on a limb of the wearer, and for this purpose the garment is provided with front attaching means 11, rear attaching means 12 and hip attaching means 13, each preferably in secured at its ends to the garment. The attaching members 11, 12 and 13 are engaged by loop members 14, 15 and 16 each having two eyes 17 and 18, of which the eye 17 is segmental and slidingly engages the corresponding attaching member 11, 12 or 13. By the arrangement described, each loop member 16 is mounted to swing on the corresponding attaching member. The supporting member of the support is in the form of a band 20, preferably of an inelastic material with the exception of the rear portion 21, which is preferably made of an elastic webbing. rl`he rear end of the supporting member 20 is attached to the eye 18 of the rear loop member 15, while the front end of the band 20 is provided with a lengthening and shortening buckle 22 of usual construction to form an eye 23 engaging the eye 18 of the loop member 14. The middle portion of the flexible supporting member 2O slidingly engages the eye 18 ofthe hip loop member 16 thereby forming front and rear depending portions 25 and 26, on each of which` is slidably mounted a clasp 30 adapted to engage the hose 31 at the front and rear.

Each clasp 30 comprises a plate 35, a tape 36, and a button 37. The plate 35 is provided at the top with an eye 40 slidingly engaging the corresponding depending portion 25 or 26 of the supporting member 20. Immediately below the eye 40 is a second eye 41 engaged by one end of the tape 36 engaging with its other end an eye 42 formed on the back plate 43 of the button 37 This button 37 is preferably made of a single piece of rubber or other resilient material having the aforesaid back plate 43 from which extends integrally a shank 44, preferablyI of tapering siape, and terminating in a head 45 of elon ated construction, as plainly indicated in iigs. 1, 2 and 4. The shank 44 is adapted to engage an elongated slot 50 formed in the plate 35 below the eye 41, and this dslot 50 extends sidewise from one side of the plate to within a distance of the other side thereof. The wall 51 of the slot 50 is depressed to form a seat for the head 45 of the button 37 so that the face of the head with the material of the hose 31 thereon is practically flush with the face of the plate 35, as plainly indicated in Fig. 3. Thus by the arrangement described no undesirable projecting portion of the button is on the face-of the plate 35. The lower portion of the plate 35 is provided at the open end of the slot 50 with an upwardly curved nose 52 forming with the opposite straight nose 53 of the plate 35 a curved entrance channel to the slot 50. In using the clasp the hose lmaterial is passed over the the open end thereof so that head of the button and the latter is then engaged with the plate 35 by pushing the shank 44 sidewise into the slot 50 through the hose material is firmly clamped in position between the shank 45, the head 47 and the wall 51 of the slot 50. The shank 46 on account of being tapering can be readily pushed into the slot and then the pull exerted by the hose draws the button 37 inward thus insuring a firm seating of the button and an effective clamping. of the hose material, as will be readily understood by reference to Fig. 3.
The tape 36 is preferably of a piece of elastic webbing doubled and having the doubled-up portion between the ends fastened together by stitches 60 to provide two loops 61 and 62,' of which the loop 61 engages the e e 41 while the loop 62 engages the eye 42.
y the arrangement described, the two loops 61 and 62 practically overlie each other but are adapted to receive the upper edge of the hose 31 between them, as plainly indicated in Fig. 3. By constructing the tape 36 in the manner described, the slidable lower portions 25 and 26 of the band 20 do not rub on the users liesh as the upper portion of the tape 36 is between the flesh and the said sliding portions. When the hose supporter is in position on the garment 10 and the clasps 30 are connected with the corresponding hose 31 then a sliding connection is provided by the supporting member 2() on the swinging member 16 while the swinging members 14, 15 and 16 are free to swing on their attaching members 11, 12 and 13. It will also be noticed that the depending portions 25 and 26 of the supporting member 20 have sliding connections with the clasp 30 and hence the wearer has perfect freedom of body and limbs at the same time preventing undue strain on the hose. It will also be noticed that by providing a vclasp plate 35 with a long slot 50 and a button 37 with a correspondingly long shank and head, a. large number of gripping surfaces is provided for engagement with the hose material to prevent tearing of the same by distributing the strain over a large area.
By making the button of one piece of resilient material,the back plate 43 maybe doubled up rearwardly to provide a good hold for the user to readily slip the shank 44 into the slot 50.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a hose supporter, a clasp comprising a supporting plate divided into an upper and a lower portion by a slot extending sidewise from one edge toward the other edge,
the wall of the slot being depressed, the said ksupporting plate being provided with loops above the slot, one for engagement by a flexible supporting member, a tape doubled up and having a. doubled portion intermediate the ends fastened together to form two loops, of which one engages the other of the said loops in said supporting plate, and a button o-f a resilient material and having a back plate provided with a loop engaged by the other loop of the tape, a shank extending forwardly from the said back plate and adapted to engage the said plate slot, and a head on the end of the said shank and adfpted to be seated on the said depressed wa l.
2. In a hose supporter, a button made of a single piece of resilient material compris ing a back plate provided with an integral loop for engagement by a supporting meinber, a tapered shank having its small end integrally connected with the face of the said Vback plate, and a head integral on the end of the said shank.
