Description

G. A. BRONDER.
VAPOR EXTRACTOR.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 9,19I9.
Ptented Dec. 7, 1920.
5] nuada roi GASTON a. snowman, or nnooKtYN. NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR or O EH b THOMAS cesarean, on NEW YoaK, N. Y, I
varon -nx'mao'ron Application filed April 9,
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Gasrox A. BnoNnnn,
a citizen of the United. States, and resident of the borough of Brooklyn, in the county ated uponare vaporized and-forced to a sealed main discharge condurt: It IS particularly characterized by means wherewith current of heated air and vapors or gases derived from the charge of material operated upon are forced through and about all portions of the charge of material without complicated mechanism. Extractors have been made by heating a charging chamber on the outside Walls thereof and which have not thoroughly heated their char es in all portions, vapors and gases contained therein. With the present invention all portions of the charge are subjected to heated currents of air and gases and vapors and the consequent separation of remaining gases and vapors.
In the'drawings, which represent an exemplification of the extractor. Figure 1 shows a partial section of Fig. 2 on the line 1, 1; Fig. 2 Fig. 3 is a partial section of Fig. 2 on'theline 3, 3 and Fig. 4 represents a partial section of Fig. 3 0n the line 4, 4.
The extractor comprises a charging and heating chamber 20, preferably with the hopper bottom 21 and the roof 22. A discharge opening 23, with the door 24 is provided for the hopper bottom 21. An inlet opening 25 with the door 26 is provided for the roof 22. An air and vapor circulating outlet is indicated at 27. Inclined grates 28, having the central discharge opening 29, are located in the hopper bottom of the chamber 20. Inclined perforated triangular plates 30, fill the spaces between'the grates 28. A movable grate section 32 is prov1ded for the central discharge opening 29. The grate section 32 has the slde arms33 which terminate in the perforated bosses 34.
with consequent losses of valuable shows a top plan view of Fig. 1
' 20 and Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Dec. 7, 1920.
. 1919. Serial. No. atasn.
Hinge pins 35 extend from the inner face of the chamber 20 and support the bosses 34.
A rack 36 is formed in the lower face of the grate section 32. A grate operating shaft 37 is journaled in the bearings 38 and an MSTATES PATENT OFFICE.
'39 of the hopper bottom 21, and has secured thereto the spur gear 40 which meshes with the rack 36, and the hand operating wheel 41.
A trap is connected to the roof 22 and 1 comprises the U -shaped connection having the legs 44 and 45 and the cover 46. The
leg 44 is connected to the roof 22 over a gas and vapor outlet opening 47. The leg 45 extends through the cap 48 of the sealed discharge conduit or main 49-. 1
A heater comprises the barrel 50 with the top head '51 and the bottom head 52. Heating tubes 53 in said heater extend throu h the heads thereof.
A hood 54 with -t e a chimney 55 18 located upon the head 51.
A pan 56 is secured 'to the head 52 and -contains a gas burner 57 having the gas outlet pipes 58. At the lower end of the barrel 50 a conduit 60, connects the interior of the barrel 50 with the interior of'the hopper bottom 21 below the grates 28.
A blower 61 is located above the cover 22 and has its inlet end connected with the outlet 27 only and its discharge end is connected to the barrel 50 over an opening 62' in said barrel. A motor'63 is connected to the blower 61.
To operate the extractor the chamberl20 is charged with the material to be treated through the inlet opening 25, after the door 24 of the discharge opening 23 has been tightly closed." Next the opening 25 is tightly closed blower 61 is started and the gas burner '57 is lighted. Air is driven from the chamber by means of the door 26. The
'95" forced down the barrel 50 on the.
outside of the heating tubes 53 and forced.
through the conduit 60 into the/hopper bottom 21 below the gr t'e's 28.
The'air is heated on its downward flow in the heater. by" it eans ofthe heated air that rises on the inside of the heating tubes 53.- The heated air on the outside of the.
tubes is forced through thecharge in the Chamber 20 and vaporizes the volatile portions thereof. Some of the gases and vapors produced again circulate through the heater 50, return to the chamber 20, rise in the leg 44,.descend in the le 45 and are discharge into the sealedld'scliarge main 49 through the water or other fluid contained in the latter. The gases and vapors maythen be led to condensers. not shown. After the charge has been suliiciently treated it is discharged through the discharge opening 23, after the door 24 is swung to its open position, and after the grate section'32 is moved from under the opening 29, by means of the spur gear 40 and the hand operating wheel' tl.
' 1 0 The process is then repeated with another charge. Some of the uncondensable gases produced may be collected in a holder, not Y shown, and, used for the burner of the heater. Having described my invention what I desire'tosecure by Letters Patent and claim is: I
1. In, an extractor the combination of a charging and heating chamber having a gas 0 and vapor outlet opening, a heater,a conduitand vapor outlet into the sealed discharge maimto (attract the remaining gases and vapors from the charge of material operated upon.
2. In'an extractor the combination of a charging and heating chamber having a gas and vapor outlet opening and inlet and discharge openings for a material to be treated, means t seal the latter openings, a heater to for thechamber, a conduit connecting the interiors of the heater and chamber, tubes extending through the heater, a burner for the heater to circulate heated air through the tubes thereof, a blower with its outlet end connected with the intcriorof theheater, and its inlet end connected with the interior I of the charging and heating chamber, a U-shaped connection having a pair of legs, one of said legs connected to the gas and vapor outlet of 'the chamber and a sealed 5 main with the other leg extending therein.
3. In an extractor the combination'of a charging and heating chamber having a gas -its outlet end connected with theinterior of the heater at its upper portion and out side of its tubes, a sealed main coacting with the gas and vapor outlet opening in the roof of the chamber, grates infihe hopperbottom of the chamber having a central discharg ing opening, a movable grate ,Section under the latter opening and means to move said grate section to discharge the contents of the charging and heating chamber.
Signed at the borough of Manhattan in the county ofNew York and State of New York, this 24th day of March, A, D. 1919.
